First Quarter Reading

5 years ago when I was pregnant with Corbyn I decided I should read more. Back then I honestly don't think I would have believed someone if they told me that in 5 years I would be able to read 6 books in 3 months. Since I don't see that number decreasing (especially with all the awesome built-in reading time I have in the next year - while nursing), I am going to make quarterly lists of the books I am reading. My 6 books looks pitiful compared to Rachel's 12 books this quarter, but it's huge for me!

Excellent:
1. What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty - This was my second time reading this book and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time I read it. I'd even venture to say this is one of my favorite books I've ever read!

2. The Pioneer Woman: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels - A Love Story by Ree Drummond - I loved this book and completely devoured it! Ree tells the fairy tale story of how she met and married her husband and then continues their story through the first year of their marriage.

Great:
3. Baby Proof by Emily Giffin - A light and fun read that made me consider things from another perspective - the perspective of someone who doesn't want to have children. It also made me think about what I would be willing to do for love.

4. The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty - I started reading this right after Logan was born when I needed something to help get my mind off his pneumonia scare and help me get to sleep! It wasn't quite as good as What Alice Forgot, but still enjoyable. The ending was kind of mind blowing and really made me think about how the small choices we make can completely alter the direction our lives take.

Good:
5. A Fort of Nine Towers by Qais Akbar Omar - This was a book club book that I wouldn't have chosen for myself, but I learned a lot from it. It wasn't a page turner, but worth plowing through.

Meh:
6. French Kids Eat Everything by Karen Le Billon - Another book club book that I wouldn't have chosen for myself. I was skeptical from the beginning and didn't want to believe that my children's eating habits are all my fault as the book suggests. I did learn a few things that might help encourage them to try new foods, so it was worthwhile, just not my favorite book to read.

I just finished The Husband's Secret a couple days ago and I thought it was really good but so depressing! I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Six books is awesome- you have an extra kid on me ;)
