Living for the Weekend

One day I'm going to get it together like Rachel and post about things as they happen instead of doing huge catch-up posts.

Here's a look at our last few weekends.

The weekend of death:

This weekend was the Festival of Colors. I was really looking forward to it. We got a babysitter for Corbyn, pre-ordered our color bags, and planned to meet Jared there. The morning of I woke up feeling a little iffy. We had a nurse coming to take our blood to get life insurance quotes. As soon as she took my blood (only a tiny bit), I just about passed out and then I threw up all over the carpet. I spent the rest of the day on the couch watching Friends and throwing up. Needless to say we didn't get to go to the Festival of Colors.

Rog got it a few days later. I have a theory that it was Rotavirus because Corbyn was a tiny bit sick the day before I was. He threw up once (all over me) and was more tired than normal. But he wasn't anywhere near as sick as we were. So I think his Rotavirus immunization protected him from getting really sick. Thank goodness! It was awful!

Conference weekend:

On Friday Jared was going through the temple for the first time at the Jordan River temple. It was the craziest day I have had in a long time. I spent the morning getting us all packed for the weekend while my parent's drove up from St. George. As soon as they got to Spanish Fork, my mom and I went to Bed Bath & Beyond to get a shower gift. Then we picked up Rog at work.

My dad and Jared went straight to the temple while Rog, my mom, and I took Corbyn up to my grandparent's house. Jared's {girl}friend, Cailey, was going to watch him there while we all went to the temple. We fed him, gave him a bath, and got him all settled. It was time to go, but Cailey hadn't got there yet. So I gave instructions to my grandma for her to pass onto Cailey and we went out to the car. But then Cailey got there, so I gave the instructions to her and we were on our way.

As soon as we got onto I-15 from I-215 we knew we were in trouble. There was a HUGE backup of cars from an accident all the way down at 12300 South. We got off the freeway at 7200 South and took back streets there all the while watching the time get closer and closer to the start of the session. We got to the temple at about 6:15 and Jared's session was at 6:20. It was a miracle, but we got to the room just as they were about to start. Because we were so hyped up from stressing about getting there, my mom and I actually stayed awake the whole session. And let me tell you, it has been quite a long time since that has happened for either of us!

To top off our crazy day - after the session, my mom and I went to a bridal shower for my cousin Brady's fiance.

Saturday and Sunday were way more chill. We watched conference, ate good food, went to Wood Connection (Because what trip up to SLC would be complete without that?!), worked on our taxes, and went to the Ririe conference waffle breakfast.

This last weekend:

Saturday (yesterday) was just about a perfect day. We got a lot done, ate some really good food, and got to spend time together. Rog let me sleep in while he got up with Corbyn. After I got up, Rog helped a family in our ward move. Then we took turns doing our long run for the week at Gold's on the treadmill. We were hoping to be able to take BOB and go as a family, but it was snowing. We worked on a decorating project (more on that later), made this cheesecake, cleaned the house, and took showers. I made this for dinner. It was amazing! Super easy and very filling for a breakfast for dinner meal.

Then we went mini golfing at Trafalga with our Pass of all Passes.

{Hey guys, this is cool and all... But what am I supposed to do with it?!}

{Me and my little guy. He kind of looks miserable. Those two teeth are really giving him a hard time and we're starting to wonder if they will actually ever pop out!}

{We had a little friendly bet on the game and Rog was the loser.}

When we got home we put the little dude to bed and enjoyed our cheesecake. The crust was so good - seriously to die for!

{Don't judge my crappy piping job.}

We ended the night watching Eat, Pray, Love (because I was the winner) while I worked on painting one of my Wood Connection treasures. It was a good movie. I don't feel any need to watch it again, but it was worth watching once.

Today I fasted for the first time since September of 2009. I'm still nursing Corbyn in the morning and before bed, but I don't think it's enough to justify not fasting anymore. On the way home from church I just about bit Rog's head off when I thought he was turning around to pick up a guy on the side of the road. I turn into an illogical beast when I'm hungry. For dinner we had an amazing dinner of roast, carrots, and mashed potatoes. Food always tastes better on Fast Sunday, but this dinner would have been amazing even on a regular day!

And that's the last 3 weekends!

Busy Busy

I've got a massive catch-up blog coming, but for now a look at what has been keeping me so busy...

He looks so innocent, but trust me... He's into everything these days!
And he's still working on his two bottom teeth which means he is waking up all night long and being rather grumpy during the day.
It's a good thing he's so cute and loveable!

March Decorations

All month I was telling Rog that St. Patrick's Day is the loneliest holiday. The stores just don't have as much stuff for St. Patrick's Day as they do for other holidays.

As I mentioned in my birthday post, I couldn't find St. Patrick's Day plates that would work anywhere. I actually found quite a few that were too small, but none that were the right size. So I made these at Color Me Mine. They actually messed one of them up. After trying to fix it about 3 times, they said they were sorry and gave me a gift card for $20 so I could make a new one. But I decided it actually wasn't that bad - you can only see that it is messed up if you're looking from the right angle. So I am saving my gift card to make something else later.

I found the Irish Pub sign at Tai Pan.

Wood Connection actually had a lot of St. Patrick's Day stuff. Bless them. They had a contest on their blog that I entered and I actually thought I had a pretty good chance because they said they like to see you take what they sell and make it your own. I added the "i'm irish!" part which I thought was pretty original, but I didn't win. Oh well. I don't need their approval.

The complete table.

Happy March!

GRRR!

The pictures should now be up from my last post. I had to do it the old fashioned way because Picasa still isn't working. I've tried to fix it like 500 times since I originally did that post Sunday night with no success. You can't click on them, but at least they are there.

Is anyone else having problems with Picasa's "Blog This!" button or is it just me?

Recently

This is going to be one of those random posts... There you've been warned.
A few weeks ago Rog got called to be the Ward Mission Leader. This is the 3rd time he's had that calling. He had it when we were dating in our single's ward, when we were first married in our student ward, and now in our family ward. He loves missionary work, so it is a good calling for him.
Last weekend Rog's cousin, Kyle, got married in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. Tay and Martha came down from Rexburg and stayed with us. It was fun to have visitors for a few days. Rog's mom came from Colorado and stayed with KD and Phat Tony. So we didn't see as much of her, but we did enjoy spending the time we did with her.
Saturday morning they had a breakfast at Mimi's Cafe. Rog and I were focused
on feeding Corby, so our food was a little cold by the time we got to it. But it was still pretty delish. Stacey watched Corbyn for us while we went to the actual sealing that afternoon. We were nervous he wouldn't do very well because we haven't left him with anyone other than family. But she said he was great! At the reception that evening Corbyn tried strawberries,
grapes, and pineapple for the first time. He made quite a mess of himself, his dad's white shirt, and KD's sweater! But he seemed to really enjoy himself.
After the reception we went to the Carl Bloch exhibit at the Museum of Art at BYU. It was pretty dang cool! It's visiting until May 7th, so if you get a chance, go check it out.
This picture has nothing to do with anything, but it was taken that weekend and I thought it was a cute one of me and my little buddy.
Corby's new favorite room is our downstairs bathroom. It was quiet for a few minutes and this is how we found him. I feel like every baby has to have a picture like this.
We have decided to sell our scooter, Cliff. We got him when we were first married and he has been a great addition to our family. I have many fond memories riding on him to APX, around campus, and to football games and a few not so fond memories when we rode him in the FREEZING cold. He saved us so much money on gas and was perfect for campus life.
But now that Rog works too far away to take him and he's not exactly built for a baby, we thought we should pass him on to someone who could get more use out of him. We've listed him on KSL and Craigslist, but I thought I would mention it on here. He's a Kymco Agility 50cc scooter with 9,000 km on him. We bought him new and have kept up on all the scheduled maintenance. Let me know if you or anyone you know might be interested.
I finished Catching Fire and Mockingjay in the Hunger Games series. I really liked the whole series. Mockingjay was my least favorite of the 3, but I still liked it.
{Spoiler alert.} I was so happy Katniss ended up with Peeta. And that Peeta was able to overcome being Hijacked. Oh and very happy that they had children. Catching Fire andMockingjay really made me sad for the victors. I mean they worked so hard to win the games, but then their lives are pretty much destroyed. I felt like Katniss couldn't have been happy with Gale because he didn't understand what it was like to be a victor. But Rog and I both agree there should have been some sort of closure between Gale and Katniss. And heavens, why did Prim have to die? That was the whole reason Katniss volunteered - so she wouldn't have to die! And I don't believe that Katniss would have actually voted for there to be one last Hunger Games. I was really surprised by that. But overall, a great series!
So that means I'm halfway done with my goal to read 6 books this year! I have no idea what to read now. Suggestions are welcome!

Meet BOB

It's been a little cold this week, but I bundled up Corbyn and we've had a good time with our new friend BOB.

Worth Every Penny!

After we got our water softener we wanted to get rid of the hard water left on all of our dishes. Emily told me about Lemi Shine. As you can see it was worth every penny.
FYI: I found it at Macey's for much cheaper than you can buy it on Amazon.

Swinging and Laughing

Our townhome community has quite a few little parks. Not too far from us is a nice set of swings. Corby loves when we take him swinging!

A few weekends ago we attended Elise's baby blessing up in Sandy. They had a nice luncheon at Emily's parent's house after. They had a swing set, so while we waited for the food to be ready we took Corby out for a nice swing.

I can't wait for it to be warm, so we can go to the park everyday. But for now, we'll take what warm days we can get!
I put together a little video of clips of Corby laughing. He used to only laugh when we tickled him, but now he laughs all the time. I think baby laughs are the happiest sound in the world. Enjoy!

9 Months

Corbyn was again sick for his birthday, but this month he was getting over it rather than just getting it. On Monday night around midnight, he woke up screaming his head off. Usually we just let him cry it out, but this time I went in to check on him. He was burning up, so we took his temperature - 102.5! That's the highest it has ever been, so we called the on-call doctor. He said to put him in a lukewarm tub for 30 minutes to bring it down and take him to his doctor in the morning if he still had a fever.
In the morning it was 103! He had no outward symptoms, so I was especially worried. The doctor said his ears were fine, but his throat was very sore. Apparently some viruses can cause just a sore throat and a fever. We alternated giving him Advil and Tylenol all day Tuesday and Wednesday, but he still had a slight fever even with the medicine bringing it down. Wednesday night we had the EQ President and Secretary come help Rog give him a blessing. Thursday (his 9 month birthday) his fever was gone and the doctor found that his throat was not sore anymore at his well visit. He wasn't his normal happy playful self and he had a slight fever again that night. But by Friday he seemed much better and his fever hasn't returned.
He has been sick about once a month since his 6 month appointment. His doctor said that is normal for his age during the winter months and he should stop getting sick so much now that it is warming up. I really hope that is the case because I don't know if I can take another sickness anytime soon!
His stats:
Weight: 18 pounds, 7 ounces (20th percentile)
Height: 28 1/2 inches (60th percentile)
He's way skinny, but he has gained some weight since his 6 month visit. And his doctor said he should start gaining weight faster now that he won't be getting sick so much (fingers crossed) and as he eats more and more table food.
The Corb at 9 months:
*Discovered his tongue - sticks it out a lot.
*Loves to open and close doors, cabinets, drawers, etc...
*Now shakes his head "no" rather than like a bobble head.
*Loves to swing. I have the cutest video of him just laughing his head off while I swing him that I've been meaning to post.
*Has learned that he doesn't have to swallow all the food I put in his mouth, so he'll spit it out if he doesn't like it. He loves fruit, but doesn't like vegetables or cereal (rice, oatmeal, barley). We just started giving him the Gerber puffs and he seems to love those.
*Has been working on his two bottom middle teeth for the past week and a half. We can see two white bumps in his gums, but they haven't popped out yet.
*Puts every crumb he can find in his mouth.
*Just started letting go of things and standing on his own for a few seconds before he gets scared or falls down.

He's growing up so fast! Sigh. Before I know it I'll be posting about his 1st birthday! We sure love our little dude!

Bday Celebration and a Bball Game

Last Friday night we celebrated my birthday with the Pughs. We got Chili's to go and watched/listened to the BYU basketball game at the Pugh's apartment. They didn't have the station the game was on, but we found it online and hooked up their laptop to the tv. It would freeze a lot, so we were also listening to it on the radio. It wasn't the best watching situation, but the game was AMAZING! Jimmer scored 52 points and broke all kinds of records.
Emily made me a skookie for my cake. MMMM! I love skookies!
Thanks for a great night Pughs!

Daddy's Little Helper

For Rog's birthday he got a bookshelf. Corbyn helped him put it together.

That was a few weeks ago. On Monday we finally got it hung! It's pretty empty now, but we'll fill it up as we go. And I have plans for decorations to go on top.
