Five on Friday

1. Roger lost his wedding ring this week. We're pretty sure it made it home from Colorado, but we can't find it anywhere in our house. (We haven't looked too hard yet.) Honestly I'm surprised it took 5 years for one of us to lose one. It's a good thing it was Rog and not me because mine would be a lot more expensive to replace! Of course you know as soon as we replace it, we'll find it.

2. I took our new BOB double stroller out for its first expedition this week - on a walk, not a run. I had to pick up a few freezer meals from a member of my committee and take them to a family in our ward. It was about a thousand degrees outside, so even though it was a very quick walk I was sweating like I had gone on a very long run when we got home.



3. After taking pretty much all her naps in her car seat or in someone's arms last week, Peyton had a few rough days of naps this week. I'd get her to sleep and then lay her down and she would instantly wake up screaming bloody murder. Luckily she remembered how to nap in her crib and we are actually on a better schedule now than we were before our trip.

4. One day we were playing in the garage trying to avoid the heat, but get out of the house at the same time. I set Peyton down in a camp chair for a minute while I was doing something and then Corbyn wanted to sit in a camp chair too. And no, I did not plan that their shirts match their chairs.



5. Corbyn had his first dentist check up yesterday. He wasn't thrilled about it, but it also probably could have gone a lot worse than it did. I was so nervous that he would have some cavities, but he didn't have any!

4th in Colorado

Last week we went to Colorado for the 4th of July and a Phillips family reunion.

Before we left on Tuesday we couldn't miss out on Provo's Balloon Festival. We woke the kids up early and headed over.

Corby had just learned the word, piggy, so he loved this balloon.

Rog worked a half day and then we hit the road. We went through the mountain and things were going just fine until Corby got carsick and threw up all over himself and his car seat. That wasn't fun, but we got it all cleaned up and eventually made it to Kenzie and Irving's.

We had signed up to run the Highlands Ranch Independence Day 5K with Irving, so we were up bright and early for that.

Taylor and Martha weren't planning on coming for the week because Taylor is selling pest control in Washington DC for the summer. But because of the crazy storms and power outages they had there, they decided to fly out. It was a nice surprise! So Martha also joined us for the run.

It was probably the hardest 5K course we have ever run with multiple steep hills. After having a baby and only training for about 2 weeks, I wasn't prepared for that. I felt pretty good during the run, but paid for it the rest of the day!

Later in the day, we went to a nearby splash pad. Corby had a great time playing with his dad.

Peyton didn't want to miss out on the fun.

Kenzie had a fun colored bubble machine and white shirts for all the boys. They all had fun running around in the bubbles and getting their shirts colored. 

And Peyton just looked cute in her 4th of July outfit.

For dessert we roasted marshmallows and made s'mores. (Every time Corby sees this picture he says, mess. So cute.)

Fireworks were banned because of all the wildfires, so we did glow sticks instead.

On Thursday we went swimming and had a chill day while those of our family who live in Colorado had to work.

That night we had dinner at Rex and Edda's and watched Toy Story 3 in the theatre. Corby was in heaven!

On Friday we went to the Denver Zoo in the morning. Unlike our trip to the Hogle Zoo a few weeks ago, it was hot, hot, hot! But we were glad Rog got to join us this time. 

When we first walked in we saw this lion up on a rock (in the top left of the picture). It was probably the coolest thing we saw.

Corby's favorite part of the morning was when we took a break to feed Peyton and got him some ice cream. 

We couldn't leave until we got a picture of our little hippo in her hippo outfit with the hippo. Pretty sure she'll hate us for this picture someday!

After nap time, we were planning on going swimming to cool off from the morning, but just as we got there, they closed the pool because of some thunder and lightning. So we got Dixie's water table out and let the kiddos play with that instead.

We went to Village Inn for dinner which was a great choice for our large group with 4 crazy boys. We got right in and the boys enjoyed their pancakes and breakfast food.

On Saturday Dixie had planned a family reunion with Roger's cousins at the Aurora Reservoir. Only a few were able to come, but it was still fun.

The water was a little cold for Corby's liking, but he played in it for a little while.

And everyone adored our cute little Peyton doll in her swimsuit.

After the reunion and nap time, there was a crazy huge storm that came through. Luckily it waited until after our morning at the reservoir!

That night we just hung out one last night before we had to say goodbye. The cousins enjoyed an ice cream cone together.

Corby and Sam had a great time playing together the whole trip. Sam is a year older than Corby, but they are almost the same size and they look a lot alike with their white blonde hair. They even have matching swim shorts. (I'm sad we didn't get a picture of that!)

Right before we were going to go back to Kenzie and Irving's to get packed and ready to leave the next morning, Rog and Corby were playing and Corby hurt his wrist. It was a little scary because he was holding it and not using it. That's the first time he hasn't just bounced back after an injury, so we thought he might really have done something to it. We were looking into Urgent Care and ER options, but then Rog decided to give him a blessing (with his dad and Irving). He continued to hold it during the blessing, but as soon as they were done, he was completely fine! It was a huge blessing and a testimony to the power of the Priesthood.

On Sunday we got an early start and drove home. We decided to take the Wyoming way home to avoid another throw up incident even though that way is an extra hour for us. Bill and Mariah had dinner waiting for us when we got home - I'm pretty sure that was the only thing that got us through that long drive with 2 kids!

It was a fun trip spending time with all of the Phillips clan!

2 Years/2 Months

We got Corbyn's 2 year pictures back yesterday. Here are a few of my favorites.

We started off taking some shots of Big Brother and Little Sister together. Obviously Corbyn was very excited...

It was easy to get some good shots of the little princess. (It was Corbyn's photo shoot, but we figured we'd take a few of her while we were at it.)





Corbyn wasn't so easy. I honestly think the photographer was waiting for him to sit down and pose for her. Obviously she hasn't photographed a lot of 2 year olds. Or maybe she just hasn't photographed such active 2 year olds?



He was a little better when I pulled out some fruit snacks in sheer desperation.



Finally we got this keeper.



We love our little mover and shaker even if he isn't the easiest to photograph!

2 Months

After pretty much forgetting about Peyton's 2 month birthday on Tuesday, we had her 2 month well child visit on Wednesday. She had her shots which didn't really seem to phase her at all. What a trooper!

Her stats:

Weight: 12 pounds, 4 ounces (80th percentile)
Height: 23 inches (40th percentile)

Peyton at 2 months:

*Makes very cute cooing noises.
*Has the best smile.
*Sleeps great at night. We just put her down unswaddled and she goes right to sleep. She does one solid 6 hour stretch and then wakes up about every 3 hours after that. Naps aren't as consistent yet, but we're working on them. She does better when she's swaddled for her naps, but I really want to break her of that because I don't want her to be reliant on being swaddled.
*Follows us as we move around the room.
*Loves when we stand her up.
*Is pretty close to being able to sit in her Bumbo chair.
*Goes a long time between poos. Usually it's 2-3 days, but once she went 5!
*Had her first mini cold thanks to her brother.
*Moves a lot during tummy time. She practically crawls and usually ends up off the blanket!
*Is doing much better at staying awake while eating. And she's a pretty fast eater - each feeding only takes about 10 minutes.
*Sucks her thumb and hand on occassion.





Oh how we love this little girl!

Stay-cation

After Corbyn's birthday party and Father's Day, my parents stayed up for the week to attend the Utah Valley Parade of Homes. They are planning on moving up here when my dad retires in a year. They know they want to live in Utah Valley because Jared will be back at BYU and we will (most likely) stay where we are while Rog does his MBA/MHA, but they aren't exactly sure where in Utah Valley. So they used the Parade of Homes to scope out different possibilities.

In between their looking at houses, they did a lot of fun stuff with us. It was our stay-cation because we acted like we were on vacation, but we were home.

On Tuesday we went to the Hogle Zoo. It was Corbyn's first visit to a zoo (and of course Peyton's too). We had perfect zoo weather. It was sunny, clear, and beautiful, but only in the 70's.

Corbyn enjoyed seeing all the animals and making animal noises. He also liked playing in the play area and riding the train. And he did a great job posing by the gorilla sign!



On Wednesday we took Corbyn's 2 year pictures (and while we were at it, a few of Peyton) at Fotogenix. That wasn't a lot of fun as the 2 year old didn't exactly want to be photographed, but I'm glad we did it (and even more glad my mom was there to help). I'll post those pictures as soon as I get them back.

Wednesday evening Rog and I took a running technique class at the Runner's Corner while my parents watched Corbyn and Peyton at the mall or rather the Disney Store in the mall.

On Thursday we went to Seven Peaks.Corbyn and I went down the Tube Run about a thousand times.





While Peyton hung out and looked cute in her swim suit.



Thursday evening my parents took Corbyn to Rog's softball game while Peyton and I went to my dinner group for the month.

On Friday we said goodbye to my parents, but the fun didn't end there. Friday night we had Rog's work party at the Spanish Fork Water Park. We had never been there, so it was fun to check it out.





It was a fun week which made this week kind of a bummer in comparison, but that's how life goes!

Five on Friday

1. I have finally gotten into bow making (or rather, headband making). I made this one to go with Peyton's patriotic outfits and I loved it so much, I made a few more like it to go with other outifts she has.

2. On Monday I made these cupcakes for my visiting teacher Megan's son's birthday. I had been trying to think of something I could do to thank her for watching Corbyn for me and I remembered that she had  mentioned that she hates decorating cakes for her kid's birthdays. These were fun and easy to put together.

3. On Tuesday I realized at 9:00 pm that it was Peyton's 2 month birthday. Even worse, it took me until the middle of the night (when I was up feeding her) to realize that I was supposed to have taken her 2 month pictures. Things have been a little crazy around here lately.

4. It's been way too hot for my liking (with no end in sight) and thanks to all the wildfires, the air has been totally gross. So we played with the water table in the garage. Corbyn's favorite part was filling it up with our new hose attachment.

5. We combined our temple trip and date night for the month by doing sealings and then getting Cold Stone on the way home tonight. Many thanks to KD and Phat Tony for watching our kids for us!
