17 Months

PJ at 17 months:

*Says so many words it's already getting hard for me to keep track. To name a few, bow, cereal, owl, ow (like ouch without the ch), down, thank you, rella (for Cinderella, but she says it for any princess), Jessie, Buzz, Papa (grandpa), grandma, fishy, dolly, love you, got you, milk, ice, two (when we are counting with Corbyn), and too (when she wants to do something Corbyn is doing).

*Puts words together.

*Makes mmm noises while eating.

*Loves apples.

*Wants to be just like Corbyn.

*Likes to look through books.

*Will finally drink milk sometimes.

*Is to the age where if she takes even a 2-minute nap in the car, she will not take another nap. Sometimes I can transfer her to her crib, but it's better if I can just not go anywhere near naptime.

*Shakes her finger and says, "no, no, no" when we read Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.

*Holds up 1 finger when you ask how old she is.

*Tries so hard to jump, but can't quite figure it out.

*Likes to hold my hand and "jump" off steps.

*Can climb our tall kitchen chairs.

*Fights being put in her booster seat sometimes.

*Is starting to be entertained by movies for small amounts of time.

*Gets excited when she sees anything Mickey and Minnie. Most days she watches a Minnie's Bow-Toons clip from disneyjunior.com while I do her hair.

*Loves to play with the dolls at Grandma's house.

Five on Friday

1. McKenzie and Irving welcomed Mason Michael Perez into the world last Saturday morning (September 28th) at 8:19 am. He was 7 pounds, 7 ounces and 21 inches long. We seriously can't wait to meet him! (I hope Dixie is enjoying this flood of new babies. Unless Rex and Edda are planning on having another one soon, she's going to have a serious drought after Taylor and Martha have their baby girl in January.)

2. It was my week to host joy school. We learned about the letter D and the number 3 with dinosaurs and ducks. We made a D dinosaur and a feathered duck, ate dinosaur chicken nuggets and donut holes, stomped around to We Are The Dinosaurs, and played Duck, Duck, Goose. (I don't know how moms did joy school before Pinterest.) I think it was a successful first week. Many thanks to my mom for watching Peyton while I taught!

3. We got back our family photos. Here is that one perfect picture I asked for. Love.

4. Today Peyton took the longest nap of her entire life - over 3 hours! It was good timing because I had a lot to get done this afternoon. I just hope it doesn't mean she's getting sick!

5. Tonight we watched BYU beat Utah State 31-14. It means a lot more now that Utah State is the real deal and beating them isn't a given. We got to enjoy the first half on my parent's new giant tv before coming home to put the kids to bed - reason #569 that we love having them live near us!

Last Week

On Monday I canned peaches with my mom. It was so nice to be able to do it during the day and not finish at 1:00 am like in years past!

I got my bi-yearly haircut (that I was seriously overdue for). It was only $3 because of a promotion Great Clips does during BYU football games. She kind of went crazy with the layers, but it'll do.

We bought a team for the Wasatch Back Ragnar Relay next year! I'm so incredibly excited and also a little bit nervous, but mostly excited! Our team will be made up of a lot of my Ririe cousins (our name is Riries Take on Ragnar), but we have a few open spots, so let me know if you want to join us.

We had a great time watching Stockton and Brynn Goodrich Thursday morning. It worked out well because Corbyn's joy school was canceled due to the Howard kids being sick. We made a fort with the couch cushions and dressed up like superheroes.

Our outdoor viewing of the Hunger Games got rained out again. I guess we'll just have to hope for better luck next year!

Friday night was the BYU vs. Middle Tennessee game. On our way to the game, I got what is probably my favorite video ever of PJ.

I made Pumpkin Whoopie Pies for the tailgate.

Corbyn's Cosmo's Kids Club membership included 2 tickets to this game, so the whole family got to go!

Grandma Lori came too and took the kids home when they got tired partway through the 2nd quarter. (It was a late game starting at 7:00 pm.)

We didn't have the best start, but ended up beating them 37-10!

Saturday morning I ran the Color Me Rad 5K - think Festival of Colors combined with a 5K. Rog was on a temple trip with the youth of our ward in Manti, so my parents came and watched the kids while I ran. There was a family fair going on at the same time, so they took them over to that while I was running. They were big fans of the popcorn!

It wasn't a timed run which was a shame because I felt like I did awesome!

My friend Leanna invited me to sign up with her. I didn't actually run with her because I'm a jerk like that - just ask Rog he'll tell you. (I ditched everyone on the Electric Run too.) Her whole family was sick with colds, so she drove with us and we had a great time hanging out before/after. I'm so glad she told me about it - it was one of my favorite runs I've ever done!

That night I got to go the Relief Society Broadcast with my mom. Her stake was having a light dinner before, so we went there. I think that was the first time we've ever been together. It's so fun having them live so close!

A Little Catching Up

Here's another one of those catch-up posts I try so hard to avoid... Such is life!

Two weekends ago my parents moved into their new house. Corbyn was a big helper.

And Peyton was entertained by this little chair that she claimed as her own. (Appropriate because it belonged to my dad's mom, Joan, who Peyton is named after - Joan is Peyton's middle name.)

That same weekend McKae and Anthony came to Utah for a mission farewell for one of Anthony's sisters. So we had them over for dinner and we invited Taylor and Martha and everyone who helped with the move as well. It was a big group! Peyton's favorite part of the meal was the corn on the cob. She finally has the teeth to eat the corn right off the cob.

We were so excited to meet Rocky especially because we didn't think we'd get to meet him until Thanksgiving! Corbyn wasn't too terribly impressed.

But Peyton loved holding him and giving him hugs and kisses.

Last week I realized Peyton's hair is finally long enough to fit into a teeny tiny ponytail. It looks pretty dang cute and I can finally use all those clips I made before she was born!

Rog had a busy week at school with 2 tests and projects. Thursday night we took a break from life and watched Now You See Me - it was incredible.

Friday morning the iPhone 5s came out. Jared absolutely could not wait to get his. (He's been waiting for this day since he got home from his mission in July!) My mom and dad got to the AT&T store at 6:30 am - a very early hour especially for my mom! I met them there a little before 8:00. I could have waited, but since my mom and Jared were getting one I figured I would get one too (as an early Christmas present).

Friday morning we had a field trip for Corbyn's joy school. We hiked Grotto Falls up Payson Canyon. Peyton got to tag along and Rog got in some quality study time while we were gone.

The boys were very intrigued by a caterpillar they found - until one of them killed it. We told them not to, but boys will be boys.

Friday night we ran the Electric Run 5K with Bill and Mariah at Thanksgiving Point.

While we were waiting for it to start, they threw out a bunch of swag - mostly glow sticks, but Rog caught this awesome hat.

The whole course has different music and lighting effects along the way. It isn't your standard 5K - it's more like an awesome running party!

Most of my Saturday was spent messing with my new phone. It wasn't letting me transfer my apps, so after trying everything I could think of, I decided to restore it and start over. It got stuck in restore mode and even the people at the AT&T store couldn't get it out. They told me to take it to Simply Mac, but by then it was too close to game time to brave University Parkway. Jared plugged it into his computer, tried one thing, and just like that it was working again. He really is the iPhone master. (And now that it's working I love it! Especially the fingerprint passcode!)

We had a successful tailgate party with perfect tailgating weather. (Much better than last game when we ended up tailgating in the car!) Peyton didn't eat much of the meatball sandwiches I made, but she approved of the donuts Grandma Lori brought!

It was a terribly disappointing game. It has been way too long since we beat Utah and it's so depressing to think we don't get another chance until 2016! We lost 13-20, but at least we looked awesome with our warpaint!

On Sunday I made Swedish meatballs for Jared. He said they tasted just like the homemade meatballs he had on his mission - score!

And that my friends, brings us up to date!

Summer Bucket List Report

There's no denying that summer is over, so it's about time I report on our summer bucket list!

Hike the Y: Nope. We've been saying we should hike the Y when it's lit for homecoming for years, so maybe we'll actually do it this year!

Movie in the Park: We got rained out, but it was rescheduled for September 26th. Hopefully we'll have better luck with the weather that night.

Go Camping: Check.

Paddle Boats: Check, part of our camping trip.

Visit a National Park: Check, Bryce Canyon National Park - one of my absolute favorites.

Watch Fireworks: Check, after the Rockies game the night before the 4th of July.

Do Sparklers: Check, on the 4th of July.

Throw Rocks in a Lake: Check, Navajo Lake.

Hike Grotto Falls: Check.

Go to the Brigham City Temple: Nope, but as this is also one of our goals for the year, we'll be going before the year is up!

Hike Timp: Check, during our week at Aspen Grove.

Kiss Under the Stars: Nope. This would have been easy to accomplish, but we didn't plan it, so it didn't happen.

Float the Provo River: Check.

Watch a Parade: Check, 24th of July.

Go to the Zoo: Check.

Make Homemade Ice Cream: Check. I used my dad's recipe (which I'm guessing is actually my Grandma Joan's recipe). Eating it brought back so many memories from my childhood! (Side note: We got these cups for our wedding. Until about a year ago, Rog did not know why we use them almost exclusively for ice cream. He didn't realize that they are made to look like an ice cream cone. Yeah, he's cute!)

Go to a Carnival: Check, 24th of July.

Swim in the Spanish Fork Pool: Check.

Take Family Pictures: Check. I cannot wait to get them back!!

Eat Snow Cones: Check. We had one to kick off summer, one on the 24th of July, one at the KLAS summer party, and one to wrap up summer. For me (a huge lover of snow cones), that was not enough!

Roast S'mores: Check, when we were in Colorado for the 4th of July.

Watch a Sunset and a Sunrise: Nope. This one should have/would have been easy enough to accomplish. But again, we didn't plan for it and it didn't happen.

Go to a Baseball Game: Check, Rockies game the night before the 4th of July.

It was a pretty spectacular summer!
