Flashback Friday

With summer coming, I've really been craving swimming. Not lap swimming, but swimming in the warm sun. *And preferably in a body more like the one in this picture, not the one I currently have. Maybe by the end of the summer.



This picture is from the summer after we got married. We drove Roger's car to Oklahoma to give it back and then we flew home after spending a few days playing with his family. This picture was taken at the Big Splash Water Park. Good times!

June Crafts

I figure that in June I won't have much time for crafting, but I'll want some June decorations. So I did my June crafting a little early.

Here is my June "0".



I also made this birdhouse because I don't really have anything else to put out in June. When I was buying this birdhouse, I also bought a birdhouse with a heart-shaped hole for Valentine's Day. They were only $1 each, so I figured why not? When I got them home Rog looked at me like I was a crazy person. Apparently two birdhouses is a lot?

When I was making these I had a little accident with the Mod Podge. I spilled it all over the living room - it was on the coffee table and the carpet. Good thing it cleans up pretty well and dries clear. The next night I spilled a very large glass of water all over the kitchen floor. They weren't lying when they said a symptom of pregnancy in the 9th month is, "Increasing clumsiness and difficulty getting around." If you don't believe me look it up in What to Expect When You're Expecting. Just another reason it's getting time for Corby to come!

What I've been up to

I feel like I need to justify my existence to all of my faithful readers out there. Sometime in the next month little Corby will be arriving and then you'll all know I'm taking care of him, but for now I'm just trying to get ready for his arrival.

Most of last week was spent finishing the baby quilt. I took it over to a quilt shop in Springville about 5 minutes or less from our house to be machine quilted. It probably won't be done before Corby gets here, but it's out of my hands now, so I'm not stressing about it.



On Saturday we took a final trip to IKEA. I promised Rog that we are officially done buying furniture for our house. And that means he is done putting furniture together. He's pretty excited about that. We found these bins that are perfect for the changing table.

We got Corby this dresser.

And we got me this bookshelf for my craft room.

I also worked on getting our insurance ready for the switch over that will occur June 1st and yesterday I picked a pediatrician. Corby will be full term (37 weeks) on Friday, but it would be better to have him in June (on Rog's insurance). So we keep telling him that in one week from today he is welcome! Hopefully he won't wait too long after that. I'm getting to the point where random people ask me when I'm due and then tell me to hang in there, so I think that means it's time for him to come!

Flashback Friday

I know everyone wanted to see a picture of Rog as a baby this week, but I don't have any pictures of Rog as a baby... So this picture from when we first started dating will have to do.



This was at the Manti Pageant in 2006. This was the first night I considered Rog as someone I wanted to date. The story goes like this...

First some background: The semester before Rog came to BYU, I dated Jeff Brown. We broke up in March, but I would still hang out over at Jeff's apartment a lot. Rog moved into that apartment at the end of April. It just so happened that my apartment was assigned to the same FHE group as his apartment and he was my dad. He got to know me in a unique environment - one where I knew a lot of people, so I was comfortable and outgoing. (I'm convinced nothing would have ever happened if I had been my normal, shy self around him.) And I kind of liked his roommate Hunter.

Now the story: A group of us went down to the Manti Pageant. I rode with Hunter and Rog rode with my roommate Hannah. The whole ride down there Hunter would not talk to me at all. As soon as we got there, I told Rog that I didn't want to have to ride back with Hunter. Rog and I hung out the rest of the night. We got Navajo tacos and snow cones. When it was about time for the pageant to start, we tried to go onto the temple grounds with our snow cones, but they told us we had to finish them first. So we ended up talking to some crazy protester lady. That was interesting to say the least. We watched the pageant and then when the time came to go home, Rog told Hunter I was riding back with him. The whole way home he told me stories about his mission (inspired by talking to that crazy lady). I sat there and thought, "Wow, he's pretty passionate about his mission... Maybe I should date him..."

So all because of a snow cone, Rog and I started dating. And now 4 years later, we've been married 3 years, we have a house, and a little Corby will be joining us in the next month.

35 Weeks

Susan of Susan Monson Photography did a great job and she was awesome to work with. If you are looking for a photographer at a very reasonable price, I would definitely recommend Susan.

And I couldn't have been happier with the location we chose. I'm so happy I coerced Rog into taking these pictures with me. *And I think he actually even had a good time too.

Progress

This week we finally started making progress on Corbyn's room.

Rog put together the changing table and Philip the Frog helped us make sure it was suitable for Corby.



Rog stained the rocking chair.

I picked out the fabric for Corby's quilt and pieced together a good majority of it (the time consuming part anyway).

And I packed our bags for the hospital other than the stuff we use every day. (I know I'm not due for a month, but I can't pack under pressure.)

We also took some maternity pictures. We'll be getting the cd of the edited pictures tomorrow, so I'll post those then. But if you can't wait, you can get a sneak peak here.

Flashback Friday

This is me as a little baby on my very first Easter with my mom. I was due on Easter, but came 20 days early.

34 Weeks

Let's talk due dates... Based on my LMP my due date is June 18th. At about 8 weeks, they did an ultrasound to determine dates (because my periods were ridiculously irregular after being on birth control, sorry if that's TMI). Based on that ultrasound, my due date is June 22nd. So that is the due date I have been using. But at my last doctor's appointment, I realized that they have been using the June 18th due date. So that got me thinking that maybe I should use that due date too. You're probably thinking, "That's 4 days different, does it really matter?" Well, if you've ever been pregnant, you know that it DEFINITELY matters! So if you notice that my ticker skips ahead 4 days, that's why.

Why does it matter? Well, I think I can officially say that I am to the UNCOMFORTABLE part of pregnancy. I've been pretty uncomfortable for about 10 weeks now (due to problems with my pelvis), but now I am really uncomfortable. My little boy has decided that he likes his feet up in my right ribcage which results in the most intense burning sensation. At the same time, I feel like he's constantly on my bladder, so I have to pee all the time. Oh and don't even get me started on Braxton Hicks contractions. Luckily they aren't painful, but they are ever so uncomfortable. I don't understand why my uterus has to "practice" contracting. I'm pretty sure it could figure it out when the time comes.

So the reason that it matters is that they base induction decisions on your due date. If Corbyn decides to stay that long (he seriously better not!), I will be grateful I don't have to wait 4 more days!

I was going to take a 34 week picture earlier this week, but I didn't get around to it. I know you all want to see me in my current hippo state, but you'll have to wait a few more days. Tomorrow we are doing a maternity photo shoot, so I will post those pictures as soon as I get them back from our photographer. I wanted to do those a little earlier - like at 32 weeks - but because of rain and conflicts with our photographer, we couldn't get them scheduled until this week.

I guess now would be a good time to give Roger's disclaimer that he is COMPLETELY apposed to these pictures and the only reason he is doing them is because I am making him. Let me assure you that there will be no bare belly pictures as I am not a fan of those. But I really think they are cute otherwise. I've heard lots of people say they wish they had done them, so I'm going to do them.

Ok, that's enough complaining for now. I really am grateful that I am pregnant and that soon I will have a cute baby that will make all of this oh so worth it. I am just so ready to be DONE!

Mother's Day

For Mother's Day Rog and Corby made me a cute card.



We went to my grandparent's house for dinner and I made this strawberry shortcake trifle. It was very yummy.

On the way there we saw this off the freeway. On the way home we made sure we got a picture.

It was a fun day! I can't wait until next Mother's Day when my baby is actually here and not jamming his feet up in my ribs and making me generally uncomfortable most of the time. :)

Friend Baby Shower

Saturday Emily, Amber, and Rachel threw me a friend baby shower. It was great to have so many of my friends from my old ward there.



They had the cutest theme - Shauna's about to POP! We had Popcorn, Popsicles, Pop Tarts, Cake Pops, Blow Pops, and of course Soda Pop.

We played some fun games including one where Amber asked me questions about when I was a baby and when I got one wrong, I had to put a piece of bubble gum in my mouth.

Of course I got some very cute and useful things for Corbyn. Thanks everyone for your kind gifts and a special thank you to Emily, Rachel, and Amber for planning such a fun shower. Love you girls!!

Retirement

Everyone has been asking me what I've been doing since I retired, so I thought I'd give a summary of my busy week!

Tuesday I got our budget all caught up and updated. I planned the food for the week and went grocery shopping with Rog when he got home from work.

Wednesday we had a baby appointment which went great. The doctor said if he had a gold star he'd give me one for the last two weeks. Weight gain, blood pressure, baby's heartbeat, size of uterus, etc... - all right where they should be. Then we ate at APX for probably the last time. (I had two credits left on Monday, so I printed the tickets out before I had to turn in my card.) I did some errands including a stop at Babies R Us where I got to park in the special pregnant lady spot!



We also went to a Cinco de Mayo party at the Martinez' apartment and the Relief Society Presidency came to meet me.

Thursday I played with my Cricut. I did some vinyl lettering for our room and for our flour and sugar jars. And I made cards for our moms. I wasn't going to put a picture on here because they're in the mail and they haven't got them yet, but I figure they'll be surprised who gets which card because they are slightly different.

That night we went to Kyle and Britt's reception and then to the President's dinner at BYU. The President's dinner is for big donors to BYU. My Grandpa Ririe is one of those donors and his wife was out of town, so we got to go with him. It was very fancy! Elder Nelson and Elder Oaks along with President Samuelson were there. They had a nice dinner and then for dessert they brought out what looked like peaches, but it was actually ice cream shaped like peaches. We wanted to take a picture, but we didn't want to look silly around all the high class people, so I found this one online.

Friday I cleaned and cooked up a storm for a house warming party we had last night. It was so good to see all our friends from our old ward! As we were getting ready for bed, I realized that I didn't take any pictures and I was so mad. So I took some this morning of some of the food we had. Banana Orange Bars and Caramel Cereal Snack Mix. Both were new recipes and I think they are keepers.

I've also been writing thank you cards like crazy. I just got caught up this morning, so if you have given me a gift and haven't got a thank you card, it should be coming very shortly. I have one more shower this afternoon and then I will take inventory of what we have and figure out what we still need. It's crazy to think that our little guy will be here in 6 or 7 weeks at most (if he decides to stay until 41 weeks and get kicked out via induction) - hopefully sooner.... but of course not too soon.

So that's what I did my first week of retirement!

Flashback Friday

Yesterday my friend Kyle got married to a very cute girl named Britt. Rog and I were able to be at their reception for just a few minutes before we had to rush off to the President's Dinner at BYU (more on that later).

Kyle and I were in the same freshman ward at BYU and we had many fun and crazy times. We used to drive around BYU with our windows down blasting ACDC as loud as we could. Oh we thought we were such rebels! One night Shannda and I decided we wanted to buy a turtle for our apartment. Somehow it worked out that Kyle bought this turtle for us and it lived under my bed. We named it Frog and it brought us hours of joy that semester!

Weekend

This weekend was pretty chill. Rog thought he had to change our back brake pads on Fred, but when he got in there he discovered he didn't. He did have the drums turned (whatever that means). I'm grateful for a husband who can work on our car and save us some $$! His parents got him a BBQ for his graduation, so we had hamburgers straight off the grill for lunch!



We played some Beatles Rockband with the Pughs Saturday night and discovered that the Beatles were definitely smoking something when they wrote half of their songs.

On Sunday I made the most amazing Oven-baked Chicken Parmesan for dinner. This dish is one of my favorites to order when I go out to eat, but it had never occurred to me that I could make it at home until a few weeks ago. I finally got around to trying it and I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was. It will definitely be added to our list of regulars at our house!

I got this cute "HOME" wood set at Wood Connection on our anniversary. Wood Connection is up in Murray, so we stopped on our way to the Ogden temple. I finally got around to painting it Sunday night while we watched "Fidler on the Roof" (Hillcrest's production from my senior year). The "o" changes every month, so it will be a fun year-round decoration. I was particularly proud that I painted the inside of the flower a different color than the outside of the flower.
