Fiesta Days

For Pioneer Days Spanish Fork celebrates Fiesta Days. We decided that since we are official Spanish Forkians now, we should join in the celebration. On Thursday night we went to the rodeo. We pulled out our best western gear and dressed up. (I knew my cowboy hat I acquired in Laramie in 2005 would eventually come in handy!) The boys had a great time and I had an ok time. (I would have enjoyed it more if I weren't so allergic to horses.)

Corby was happy as a clam being passed back and forth between mom and dad.

On Friday night we took our stroller to the carnival and walked around. Highlights included a very yummy funnel cake and The Corb having his first encounter with grass. He LOVED every minute of it.

And finally on Saturday night we had the Paulsens over for a 24th of July BBQ complete with hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, chips, watermelon, and Dixie's famous "A Little Bit of Heaven" dessert.

It was a great weekend!

Flashback Friday

Flashback Friday returns!! I've been thinking about Flashback Friday since I had Corbyn and I don't know if I will continue it... It isn't really the time issue, I just don't know how much everyone enjoys me rambling on about something in the past. Maybe I won't do it every single Friday - just when I have a really good picture to share. We'll see.

Anyway, tomorrow is Pioneer Day in Utah. 3 years ago Rog and I ran in the Deseret News Marathon which is always held on the 24th of July. While I was pushing I was thinking about that marathon. The last hour of pushing and the last 6 miles of the marathon were similar in a lot of ways. Both were at the end of something long and hard. And both times I didn't think I could finish, but somehow I did. I'm glad I have these experiences to look back on and help me remember I can do hard things.

This year for Pioneer Day we are enjoying Spanish Fork Fiesta Days. More on that to come!

July Decor

It's July 23rd and my July decorations are finally complete. I guess that's what having a baby does to you! I painted my July "o" and the star on a pole before I had Corbyn because I knew I wouldn't have time after. But I also had these USA blocks in mind - I just didn't get to them before he came. It took me three different naps, but I finally got them finished. Oh and the best thing about this project - I made it with supplies that I already had! I didn't have to buy anything new.

So here is my complete table for July.

And I finally found some plates for July. I looked at every store I could think of, but none of them had any patriotic plates. So I found these on pfaltzgraff.com.

Our little Buddha

Maybe if we rub his belly it will bring us good luck.

Dear Aiden and Sam,

Thank you for letting me borrow your swing. I love it so much. When I am being fussy, mommy puts me in it and I calm right down and go to sleep. I can't wait to meet you at Uncle Taylor's wedding. We will be great cousin friends!

Love, Corby

1 Month

I can't believe my baby is 1 month old!

On Saturday we decorated cupcakes to celebrate.

Rog decided that 1 month meant it was time to move him into his nursery. The first night (Saturday night) was a little rough. He woke up every 2 hours which really isn't like him at all. During the night he usually goes a minimum of 3 hours between feedings and sometimes he even goes 4 or 5. Luckily he is getting used to his new sleeping surroundings and is getting back to his normal sleeping schedule!

On Sunday we took him to church for the full 3 hours. (The Sunday before we took him because Rog was speaking, but we only stayed for sacrament meeting.) I was completely exhausted when we got home! I'm sure it was a combination of lack of sleep from the night before and stress over keeping him quiet/feeding him in the mother's room.

On Monday Corby had an appointment to check his weight gain. He was a whopping 10 pounds, 15 ounces! Since his 2 week appointment he has gained an average of an ounce a day. It's such a relief to know we've finally got this eating thing down, but it kind of makes me sad to know that he is just getting bigger and bigger.

Corby at 1 month:

*Loves his baths
*Loves his swing
*Learning how to smile
*Has grown out of his newborn clothes (still wears newborn diapers)
*Hates tummy time, but is getting so good at moving his neck
*Grabs my hair and holds it tight
*Loves to suck on his hands
*Likes to be swaddled with his hands by his face
*Has recovered from his first diaper rash

He is my little buddy and I LOVE him so much!

Lots of New Faces

This last week we had lots of family come to visit, so Corbyn got to enjoy lots of new faces.

His Grandma and Grandpa Phillips came from Colorado.

And his Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Phillips came from St. George.

Also, my Aunt Tracy came from Virginia and my sister came from Texas. It was good to see them all!

2 Weeks

Corbyn had his 2 week appointment on Thursday. Here are the stats:

Weight: 9 lbs, 7 oz
Length: 21.5 inches

Yes, I know he's supposed to be back to his birth weight by now. We had a rough start to breastfeeding with his blood glucose issues (because he was so big) and his jaundice. They had us supplementing him a lot, so when we went to straight breastfeeding he wasn't getting as much as he was used to. I feel like this week we finally have gotten the hang of breastfeeding and his doctor isn't concerned. We just have to go back in 2 weeks to make sure he's back to his 10 pound glory by then. I'm not too worried because he really has been eating so much better these past few days.

I took a ridiculous number of pictures. He was getting ready to eat, so he wasn't super excited about them. Does it make me a horrible mom if I think the "outtakes" where he is screaming his head off are just as cute as the ones he is happy for?
