BYU vs. New Mexico

I was going to skip posting about this (and move on to posting about Thanksgiving), but when I uploaded these pictures from my camera I thought they were too cute not to share. So you'll have to wait another day to hear about our fabulous Thanksgiving in Colorado. Hopefully I'll be able to get to that tomorrow.

The BYU vs. New Mexico game was the last home game of the season. My parents couldn't come up that weekend because the Jubilee of Trees (similar to the Festival of Trees in Salt Lake, but smaller) was going on down in St. George and my dad was in charge of it. So we debated all week what we were going to do about the game (because we wouldn't have anyone to watch Corby). Finally we decided it would be too cold to go to the game. But as I've mentioned before, we don't have tv anymore... So the Pughs were nice enough to let us watch the game at their place while they were at the actual game.

Here we are watching the game...

Now let's zoom in on Corbyn. Look at him so intently watching the Cougs. That's my boy! And yes, he only has one sock on. It's a game we play all day long.
Later he decided he was hungry and the only thing that would satisfy his hunger was Zack's computer. Oh man, this kid cracks me up! He just has to taste everything in sight!
Final score: BYU 40 - New Mexico 7!

5 Months

Last Wednesday was Corbyn's 5 month birthday. Oh my, this is going much too fast!

The Corb at 5 months:

*Rolls all the time - usually from his back to his tummy (only over his left shoulder), but he can also roll from his tummy to his back (over either shoulder)
*Will tolerate tummy time if he's in the right mood and if he got himself there
*Is super curious - grabs at everything within his reach
*Is our eczema baby
*Has outgrown the swing - he just tries to grab the fishies above him and get out when we put him in it
*Is learning to feed himself when we give him a bottle
*Is not a very good napper
*Is getting better at sitting up - can hold himself at a 45 degree angle rather than sitting with his face in his feet
*Is pretty good for the first 2 hours of church, but talks and talks through the 3rd hour (so much that I have to take him out of Relief Society)
*Still has baby blue eyes
*Is getting more hair, but it's really light blonde, so it's hard to tell in pictures
*Smiles at everyone

He was very interested in the 5 month sign during his pictures. What a cutie! We love him!

Crunchy

I shall call him Crunchy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Crunchy.

Corby loves anything that crunches. When I change his diaper he twists around (so it is impossible to change his diaper) because he knows the diaper wipes are behind him and the container is crunchy.

One of my visiting teachers told me how to make a crunchy toy. Sew two pieces of fabric with right sides together leaving part of a side open. Turn the right sides out. Put something crunchy inside - I used a small Doritos bag. Sew the opening closed. And that's it - easy peasy Japanesey!

It keeps Corby occupied and happy for hours... And that makes for one very happy mom!

Emily's Baby Shower

On Saturday Lacy, Janae, and I threw a baby shower for Emily. We had it up in Salt Lake at Kristen's house. For those who don't know, Lacy, Janae, and Kristen all went to Hillcrest with me and Emily. It was fun to get together with old friends from high school.

I was in charge of games, so we decorated onesies.

Yay for babies!

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

This recipe is probably my favorite new find this fall. It's homemade oreos meets autumn! I know I'm weird, but I don't really like pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. The chocolate chips ruin it for me! So I was happy to find a yummy pumpkin cookie without chocolate chips!

I made them for a BYU game we watched at the Pugh's casa earlier in the season. Then I made them again for our tailgate before the UNLV game and for Anna's baby shower. They were a hit every time!

Give them a try!

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies
from Betty Crocker's Fall Baking

1 pouch Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix
1 tablespoon flour
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 egg
1 container Betty Crocker cream cheese frosting

Heat oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, stir together cookie mix and flour. Add remaining ingredients; stir until stiff dough forms. Onto ungreased cookie sheets, drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart. Lightly press tops with floured fingertips to flatten slightly. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Cool 2 minutes and then remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely, about 15 minutes. Spread frosting on bottom of 1 cooled cookie. Top with second cookie, bottom side down to make a cookie sandwich.

And while I'm talking about fall treats, let me just mention that this recipe is to die for! I halfed the recipe (and used 7-Up instead of Mountain Dew because I had that already) and made them last night as a part of our Sunday dinner. I'm a little embarrased to say that Rog and I each had 3 dumplings. But if you try them, I'm sure you'll see why!

Anna's Baby Shower

After the BYU vs. UNLV game, Emily and I helped throw a shower with MacKenzie Parks for the wonderful Anna Paulsen. Our theme was Anna's lil' Pumpkin, so we feasted on yummy autumn food.

It was a fun shower to celebrate Anna's lil' Pumpkin - due to arrive January 3rd!

BYU vs. UNLV

Last weekend BYU played UNLV. Corby got to wear his first BYU shirt to the tailgate before the game. It was a beautiful fall day which made for some cute pictures of Corby playing with his daddy.

Grandma Lori watched Corby during the game as usual, but it was especially nice of her this game because he was sick with a cough and runny nose and he wasn't being his normal happy self.

It was a fun game to be at because it was perfect weather... not too hot, not too cold, not raining... And BYU totally beat up on UNLV!

This isn't the best picture, but I realized it's the only one we have of just me and Rog at a football game this year.

Final score: BYU 55 - UNLV 7! Go Cougs!

He rolls...

...and he does it all the time now. Not like the one time he did it when he was 1 month old.

{Thanks to Grandma Lori for finally getting it on video!}

He rolls a lot when he's in his crib which makes for some cute new sleeping positions.

He has started trying to figure out how to move forward when he's on his tummy. I could crawl by 6 months, so if he's like me, he'll be crawling by Christmas! Yikes! I guess it's time to start thinking about childproofing...

Halloween

The Friday before Halloween, Rog's work had a Halloween party. We got to take Corby trick-or-treating around the office.

On Saturday (Halloween in Utah), we had the Pughs and Jared over. The Pughs were Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Dr. Seuss, Jared was the element Osmium, I was corn on the cob, and Rog was a pea pod. We were trying to do a vegetable theme with Corby being a pumpkin... But unfortunately because I wasn't feeling my best that week, our costumes didn't turn out too well. At least Corby was cute!

Our cute little pumpkin with the pumpkin we never got around to carving.

We had a ghoulish feast with spiderweb dip, eyeball tacos, wormy jello, and blood punch. Then we decorated sugar cookies and drew faces on jack-o-lantern cake pops (with Americolor food markers). And we watched Garfield's Halloween Adventure and Coraline.

It was a fun way to celebrate Halloween!

Sneak Peak

I have a thing for owls, so when I saw these I knew that I had to have them.

And it has taken every ounce of self control I have for me not to buy this and this to match.

October Decorations

October is one of my favorite months to decorate for. I had my decorations up pretty early in the month, but I never got around to posting about it. So here it is, mostly for my records.

My BOO blocks. I made them last year.

My pumpkin patch. Also made last year.

My table. All new this year. I found the Trick or Treat bowl at Kohl's and the rest is Wood Connection. Oh Wood Connection, I love you!

And my plates. I started out with 4, but 2 got broken throughout the month. They were a little small, so they fell out easy. Oops!

We also had a pumpkin that lit up in our window and orange lights around our front door, but Rog took them down before I got a picture.
