A Little Catch Up

A couple weekends ago our ward had our summer block party. They had it at noon and it was hot hot hot, but we still managed to have a good time. Corbyn insisted we decorate his bike, but then was nowhere to be found when it was time for the bike parade. (I'm sure he was off playing with Rhys somewhere.) But Peyton was super cute riding her decorated bike around!

She also enjoyed all the water toys they had set up for the kids (as did Rog - he got soaked).

Corbyn thought it was pretty cool that he got to throw a pie at the bishop.

That night we went to dinner at Pizza Pie Cafe to celebrate Papa George's birthday.

The next day Peyton came down with the fever Corbyn had a few days earlier (so apparently it wasn't from his shots after all). I stayed home from church with her and was super bummed I had to miss out on meeting Elder Hales. (Two of his grandsons are in our ward and one was receiving the Aaronic Priesthood at the same time the other was receiving the Melchizedek Priesthood. Because Rog is their home teacher, I was invited to attend.) She woke up after less than an hour nap and the only way I could get her back to sleep was on her puppy.

We finally decided to buy Corbyn training wheels. He had been using some that were from Rhys' bike, but because Rhys' bike is a 10 inch and Corbyn's bike is a 12 inch, they were not working too well.

It's been pretty hot in the late afternoon, so Corbyn and Rhys have gotten into the habit of playing in our house while Peyton is napping. They play well and let me get stuff done, so I don't mind too much. (Other than the few times they have woken Peyton up from her nap early.)

We were at the Phillips' cabin for the 24th of July, but didn't want to miss out on all the Fiesta Days fun. We went to the carnival the day before and had a great time riding rides...

Going down the Fun Slide...

And enjoying an Italian Ice treat.

Swimming Lessons

The last two days of swim lessons, Grandma came with us to take pictures. I already shared a couple of them, but she got too many good ones not to share the rest!

Peyton and I had fun doing the mom and me class together. We'll probably end up doing it again next year because she still won't be old enough to do them by herself, but I just know she would be too upset sitting and watching Corbyn do lessons without her!

Her favorite song was the frog song where we practiced blowing bubbles.

She resisted being dipped under the water less than Corbyn did last year, so I did it a whole lot more. By the end of the two weeks, she was doing head bobs all by herself! Down she goes...

And up! That's my brave girl!

She also loved going down the slide on slide day.

She let me take her down a few times, but then she wanted to go down all by herself! I told her to sit on her bum, but she always ended up on her stomach somehow.

Corbyn's teacher was perfect for him. After the first day, I never had any trouble getting him to go. And he learned so much!

He waited very patiently until the last day when he got to go down the slide!

He was terrified to jump off the diving board. One of the other teachers basically picked him up and threw him to his teacher waiting below.

He can be a huge chicken, so it's good for him to get outside his comfort zone and do things like this!

I know some people are against city swim lessons, but I've been nothing but happy with how Spanish Fork does them!

4th of July

We spent the last two 4th of July holidays in Colorado, so I was itching for a Utah 4th of July. I made sure we came home the day before the 4th, so we could celebrate here with Rog!

We started the day off bright and early at the balloon festival.

I don't think there's a better way to start the 4th!

These kids were so happy to be with Daddy - I think they missed him!

After the balloon festival we walked over to Einstein Bros to get bagels.

We hit up the Springville Splash Pad for a few minutes before lunch and naps. Even Corbyn passed out on the couch for a good long nap!

After not cooking for a good solid week, I cooked us a 4th of July feast! We had Babyback Ribs, star-shaped watermelon, Berry Salad, baked beans, and Apple Streusel Cheesecake Bars.

I also made these s'mores for a treat to eat while we waited for the fireworks to start.

After dinner we headed over to BYU to find a place to watch the fireworks. We ended up in the same spot (Helaman Halls) we watched fireworks on our very first official date 8 years ago!

We bought a huge pack of glow sticks that Corbyn loved...

And sparklers that Peyton loved!

By the time the fireworks started, Peyton was so so tired and was screaming that she wanted to go home. But it was a fun way to finish off our 4th nonetheless!

Colorado

The day after Ragnar, the kids and I caught a ride with my parents to Colorado. It was mostly a work trip to help Diana and Jason get situated in their new house with a new baby, but we managed to have some fun while we were there too!

We stayed at Kenzie and Irving's house. (They only live about 10 minutes away from each other.) The kids had the best time playing with Jaxon and Mason's toys in the morning while I got ready for the day and when we got back at night.

We had dinner with the Phillips family one night, but they were all working during the day, so we spent most of our time with the Hobbs.

Corbyn and Peyton had the best time playing with their cousin Blake. We hardly had to do anything to entertain them - they seriously just played for hours!

My dad painted walls like crazy and I painted this bookcase for Skyler's room.

I also made some headbands for Skyler.

And spent plenty of time snuggling the newest member of the Hobbs family.

We went to Costco and stocked up on Welch's Fruit Snacks because we can never find them in Utah anymore!

We enjoyed dinner out every night. It was a nice break from cooking!

We had promised the kids we'd take them to a splash pad, but ran out of time. So we turned on the sprinklers in the backyard and that turned out to be just as good.

After a few minutes Corbyn and Blake turned it into a wrestling match.

Not sure if this is a hug or a wrestling move.

We just buckled the car seats in the back (instead of latching them in), so anytime we turned a corner this is what happened (when no one was sitting in between them). They thought it was pretty funny!

Rog had to stay behind and work. He sent me pictures like this to make me feel sorry for him, but I don't think he had too much of a terrible time watching guy movies every night and working on projects around the house. We sure were happy to see him when we got home though!

It was a fun trip and what made it even more fun was knowing that there will be many more like it! Hooray for the Hobbs moving to Aurora!

Five on Friday

1. We went to Seven Peaks Monday night for FHE. Peyton has become quite fearless in the water and decided she could go down this slide alone. And she did just that... over and over and over again all night long!

2. I took an afternoon off (from cleaning the house and getting dinner ready) to do some crafts. I made these star skewers...

And finally got this Statue of Liberty (that I bought a few years ago) done.

3. Corbyn finally had his 4 year well child visit (a month after his birthday). He is in the 90th percentile for height and 70th percentile for weight. Dr. Paxton said he is one healthy dude (other than his asthma and food allergies - that we will be testing for soon). He got his last round of shots (other than a yearly flu shot) until he is 12. Poor guy came down with a fever later that afternoon and hasn't been feeling too great since. (Still trying to decide if he got a virus or if it's a side effect of the shots.)

4. We had to say goodbye to our good friends, the Petrosinos, this week. They sold their house and are moving to Arizona for Bill to get a Masters degree in Business Analytics at ASU. We sure are going to miss them, but are excited for them to start this new adventure in their lives and luckily we know we will get to see them when they visit family up here pretty regularly.

5. Today was our last day of swim lessons. Even though Corbyn wasn't feeling 100%, I decided he was well enough to go because I didn't want him to miss out on going down the slide and jumping off the diving board. He passed Preschool Level 2 and did such a good job getting outside his comfort zone to try new things.
