Glenwood Springs

A few weeks ago we went to Glenwood Springs with my family. It was a good place to meet about halfway between Spanish Fork and Aurora and it was fun to explore somewhere we'd never been before. Jared was able to take a few days off from his internship in Oregon, so he and Cailey could come. And that meant the whole Kent Ririe family was together!

The first night we were there I hiked to Hanging Lake with my dad, Jason, and Diana. This was the highlight of the trip for me. It was short (1.2 miles each way), but incredibly steep. I had been planning on carrying Logan, but we decided to be quick, so I could leave him with Rog. (A good choice because it would have been much more difficult with an 18 pound baby strapped to me.) The trail was beautiful and the view at the top was absolutely breathtaking!

On Sunday we went to church in the morning and then had a low-key day.

^ Doesn't get any better than hanging out with your cousin eating Cheetos.

Rog entertained the medium-size kids most of the day. He took them on a scooter ride...

And then to the park with Papa George.

That evening we went on a family walk down to the river.

^ Me and my mom and the babies.

^ Logan kept trying to eat Skyler - even though he is 9 months younger, he already outweighs her!

On Monday we went to Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. You take a tram up to the top of the mountain where you find a mini amusement park with everything from thrill rides to cave tours. (Think Park City Mountain Resort, but bigger.) We bought all-day passes, so we could ride whatever we wanted all day long. The alpine coaster was a universal favorite for nearly everyone.

Laser Tag was a favorite for these three.

Logan was a trooper and was happy despite spending most of the day in the stroller.

Everywhere you looked there were beautiful views.

^ We just got these awesome shirts from Stately Type that were pretty perfect for the occasion.

We took a little break in the afternoon to go swimming in our hotel pool.

Logan took a nap in the shade after his swim.

We finished off the night back at the adventure park for a few more rides and many more rounds of Laser Tag for the kids.

Tuesday morning I went for a run in the rain and then met a little girl named Shauna (but spelled Chaunah or something like that) while eating breakfast. I ended up talking to her parents for a long time which is completely out of character for me (but I couldn't resist striking up a conversation because I don't think I've ever met someone my age or younger with my same name). After that we packed up and headed to Aurora to finish our week with the Phillips family.

(To be continued...)

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie...

He's going to ask for a glass of milk.

If you decide to upgrade to a king mattress, you're going to have to buy a king bed frame. If you buy a king bed frame, you're going to have to buy the matching nightstands. If you buy the matching nightstands, you're going to have to buy the matching dresser. If you buy all your furniture from IKEA, your husband is going to have to spend a lot of time putting it together.

Also, If you decide to upgrade to a king mattress, you're going to have to buy a king quilt.

^ Not in love with the yellow pillow. It came with the quilt set and will stay there until I find a yellow pillow I do love.

If you buy a king quilt, you're going to have to paint your walls to match.

If you paint your walls to match, you're going to have to redecorate your entire room. If you're redecorating your entire room, you're going to have to go back to IKEA (with Princess Aurora) to buy a rug, lamps, and picture frames.

And finally, if you spend all your time redecorating your bedroom, you won't have a lot of time to blog.

Fiesta Days

We love Spanish Fork Fiesta Days! We took advantage of all the events we could because this is most likely the last year we will live here for them. Grandma Lori and Papa George were able to join us for most of the activities.

Children's Day Activities in the Park

The Saturday before the 24th is Kid's Day. They have a parade (which we did not attend) and then there are a bunch of fun activities for kids at City Park - fishing for prizes, hitting golf balls, throwing frisbees, etc...

Peyton got her nails painted by a princess (the Spanish Fork royalty).

And both kids got their faces painted. Corbyn got a spider...

And Peyton got a pink kitty.

They also had a bunch of bounce toys set up.

We caught this cute candid moment when Corbyn and Peyton were waiting in line. Corbyn is always watching out for Peyton.

Movie Night

The Monday night before the 24th is Movie Night. I've always wanted to go (love me an outdoor summer movie), but this was our first year actually going. They played Big Hero 6 at the Sports Park.

We went to the Carnival Wednesday night. We bought all day passes for the kids in advance (so they were $20 instead of $30) - best idea ever! The kids rode ride after ride all night and had the best time.

They needed to ride with an adult for a few of the rides, so we bought some extra tickets for me and Rog. We even went on one of the big kid rides without them.

We ended up with a few extra tickets to burn, so we did one of the carnival games.

Peyton got a princess tiara...

And Corbyn got an air nerf gun thingy.

We finished off the night with an Italian Ice from one of the concession vendors at City Park. And Logan enjoyed being out of his stroller playing in the grass.

Speedy Spaniard 10K

The morning of the 24th I ran the Speedy Spaniard 10K. It was my second time running it. This year the course went along the River Trail which was fun. I finished 4th in my age group at 51:47 (8:23 average mile). Rog and the kids stayed home, but my dad came to watch me cross the finish line.

Bubble Fun

In the evening on the 24th we had a picnic at City Park and then played in bubbles. The kids had been talking about this and wanting to do it all week - so glad it did not disappoint! Rog and I had fun doing it too!

I think it was our best Fiesta Days yet!

Past Fiesta Days: 201420132012, and 2010. (2011 we were in Canada.)

4 Months

Logan turned 4 months on July 18th. He had his checkup and shots on July 29th.

His stats:

Weight: 17 pounds, 8 ounces (80th percentile)
Height: 24 3/4 inches (25th percentile)

Logan at 4 months:

*Blows spit bubbles.
*Laughs when we tickle him and when his big brother and sister are being silly.
*Holds onto toys and puts them in his mouth.
*Tries to reach for everything he sees.
*Sometimes will hold onto his crib when he's sleeping.
*Has rolled over a few times from his back to his stomach.
*Is starting to get distracted when he's eating. When Corbyn and Peyton are in the room, it's a little bit like a 3 ring circus, so I can't blame him!
*Fights going down for naps, but they are becoming a little bit longer and if I have to make him cry it out, he settles down faster than he used to (most of the time).
*Almost always spits up after he burps.
*Loves to play with his feet.

My favorite random pictures from the last month...

Cool kids on our morning walk.

With our fancy video monitor, it's easy to take pictures of him while he's sleeping in his crib.

Corbyn was bouncing him a little on his bed and he was holding on for dear life. He was also laughing and thought it was awesome. (And don't worry, we were supervising.)

Happy boy hanging out in our BOB stroller while Corbyn and Peyton were playing at the park.

He gives me the best smiles while we're out walking (when he's in his stroller that his carseat snaps into).

When Rog gets home from work, he often plays Lego Batman with Corbyn and holds Logan while I'm finishing up dinner. Now that Logan is reaching for everything, it's becoming a little more difficult for him to do both at the same time.

So tired, but must keep jumping!

Corbyn and Peyton are still great helpers and will hold him when he's being fussy.

We just love this little cutie!

Seven on Sunday

1. Rog went with the young men on the high adventure hike this week up in the High Uintas. They left early Tuesday morning and didn't get home until late Saturday afternoon. He had a great time and came home with a pretty good beard.

And he even caught and ate (part of) a fish!

2. We had an incredibly busy week which helped it go by faster (visiting teaching, registration, Logan's 4 month checkup, etc...). My parents were also a huge help - they ate dinner with us almost every night and helped me get the kids to bed.

3. I'm such a sucker for Disney movies at Costco. I saw this Three Little Pigs and couldn't pass it up - I remember watching (and loving) it as a little girl. I'm pretty sure Corbyn and Peyton have watched it every single day since we got it making it well worth the $8.50 I paid for it!

4. We registered Peyton for Preschool on Tuesday and Corbyn for Kindergarten on Wednesday. When we were at Walmart later in the week, I let Peyton pick out a backpack - she picked this Frozen one and her new favorite thing has been to load it up with treasures and wear it around the house.

5. We went to the aquarium with Bill, Mariah, and Charlotte on Wednesday. The highlight for me was the otters - they were actually awake this time (they always seem to be asleep when we go) and they gave us a good show. It was the day after Bill's birthday, so I made him orange cupcakes (he normally hates cake, but loves those) and we ate them in the parking lot before saying goodbye.

6. We had our first week of swim lessons this week. My mom goes with us and watches Logan in the shade while I do the Mom and Me class with Peyton (again) and Corbyn does his class. Peyton is pretty advanced for the Mom and Me class, but is still too young for normal classes. I knew she would have had a fit if Corbyn was doing classes and not her, so the Mom and Me class was our only option. Corbyn loves his class - he excitedly tells us everything they did after and is becoming quite the fish!

7. We celebrated my mom's birthday this weekend with dinner at Texas Roadhouse Saturday night and pink lemonade cupcakes tonight. She does so much for us, so it's fun to have a chance to celebrate her!
