Mother's Day

This Mother's Day was pretty much my worst one yet. Saturday night as we were getting ready for bed I started feeling sick. About that time Corbyn woke up and threw up again. (For the 3rd night in a row, but thankfully that was his last time.) Not too long after that I threw up. Unlike everyone else who had this before me, I did not feel better after throwing up. I spent the next few hours in the bathroom dozing off on the floor and waking up to throw up again. It was not pretty. Finally I was able to get some sleep in our bed.

I spent pretty much all of Mother's Day on our couch watching movies and eating crushed ice. (That actually wouldn't have been so bad if I didn't feel like death the whole time!) Rog decided to stay home from his meetings and church to take care of me and the kids. They went to Grandma and Grandpa's house for dinner, but I stayed home. By bedtime I was feeling a little better and actually ate some yogurt. Monday I was feeling well enough to function and eat some food, but it wasn't until Tuesday afternoon that I really felt back to normal and had my full appetite back.

I was spoiled with some fun gifts - my biggest being a speaker that plays music from my iPhone wirelessly. The kids and Rog got it for me because I accidentally dropped my phone in almond bark while making dipped Oreos for Peyton's birthday party and the speaker hasn't been the same since! (Everything works fine, it just sounds weird when I try to listen to music on it.)

It definitely was a Mother's Day I won't soon forget. Someone tell my kids to get me something better than a stomach bug next year!

Race for the Cure

After getting to bed a little after 2 am Friday night, we got up bright and early Saturday morning to go run the Race for the Cure!

It was my 3rd time running this race, but my first time running for someone. We were so happy to be running in celebration of our mom, the breast cancer survivor!

It was Jared's first race. He's recently taken up running and will be running the Ragnar with us. Jared and I ran together and my mom and dad walked it. After we crossed the finish line we found Rog and the kids and waited to see Grandma finish.

Despite the lack of sleep, it was a fun morning running the Race for the Cure!

Disneyland - Day 5

Friday was our last day. It was a lot busier than our other days and a little hotter too. Corbyn hadn't thrown up again since the night before and was acting pretty normal. Unfortunately Grandma wasn't feeling very well.

We had to check out that morning, so it took us a little longer to get to the park. The first thing we did was take a picture with the castle because we hadn't done that yet.

Then we waited in the long line for Peter Pan's Flight. We never were able to find a time when it didn't have at least a 40 minute wait! It was a must do, so we just waited it out! Poor Grandma had to get out of line to throw up in the bushes, but felt much better after that.

Rog took the kids on the Buzz ride a few times while I went to Downtown Disney to get beignets from the Jazz Kitchen for lunch. The kids thought they had died and gone to heaven - beignets for lunch!

We took some time to shop for souvenirs. Rog and I both got hats and both kids got to pick out a shirt from Grandma and Grandpa - Corbyn chose a Toy Story shirt and Peyton chose a Minnie shirt that came with a matching shirt for her dolly. Peyton got to pick out her toy - she ended up with a cute Minnie stuffed animal dressed as a princess. We also got a Christmas ornament and picked up some Vinylmations for friends.

While I was shopping with the kids, Rog went on Space Mountain. We didn't think we should try Corbyn on it just yet and I haven't gone on it our past few trips, so I've kind of gotten chicken about it.

We had a few minutes before our FastPasses were good for Indiana Jones. We considered going on Haunted Mansion, but the wait was 30 minutes and we couldn't do that wait knowing it had been a 5 minute wait earlier in the week.

Indiana Jones had been closed all week, but opened just in time for our last day! It's one of Grandma's favorites, so she went on it even not feeling 100%. Corbyn wasn't tall enough, so he had to sit that one out.

Ariel's Undersea Adventure opened the day after we left, so we were super bummed about missing that one - especially since Peyton would have loved it! Pirates, It's a Small World, Grizzly River Run, Alice in Wonderland, Gadgets Go Coaster, and Finding Nemo's Submarine Voyage were also closed. A few of those we didn't care about, but we really missed Pirates, It's a Small World, and Grizzly River Run. We were also disappointed that they only do fireworks Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights this time of year. Our hotel advertised having great views of the fireworks, so it was too bad we didn't get to see them even once!

After Indiana Jones we were going to go on Buzz one last time, but the parade was going and we couldn't really get over there, so we watched part of the parade and then had to get going.

We had an early dinner at the pizza place that was close to our hotel and then walking back to the hotel to collect our luggage and meet our shuttle to the airport, we lost Corbyn for a few scary minutes. He was walking ahead of us and must have thought we were going up to the room because when we found him he was over by the elevators that went up there. So glad that story has a happy ending!

We rode the shuttle to the airport only to find out that our flight was delayed a few hours. The kids watched Toy Story and Toy Story 2 on my laptop - hooray for digital copies!

We got Peyton to sleep before going on the flight. I just held her the whole flight and was able to get some sleep myself. Corbyn fell asleep on the flight on Rog's lap. As Rog was carrying him off, he threw up. (At least it wasn't during the flight!) We got our luggage and then had to take a shuttle to where our car was parked. Corbyn threw up again after getting off that in the parking lot. We were grateful we had planned on sleeping at my Grandpa and Grandma Ririe's house in Salt Lake that night. We pulled into their house around 2 am!

Even with a dumb stomach bug going around, it was a great trip! All the throwing up happened at relatively good times (If there's ever a good time to throw up!) and for the most part, the kids were feeling well enough during the day to enjoy Disneyland. We didn't get to do absolutely everything we wanted, but we got in all the most important things! We should have counted, but Corbyn got to do the Buzz ride at least 15 times and he would have been a happy boy if that was the only thing we did the whole trip!

Disneyland - Day 4

Thursday Peyton was finally healthy - although a little more irritable and more prone to throwing tantrums than normal.

My mom and I took the kids to Disneyland to use our Magical Morning while Rog and my dad waited in line to get into California Adventure, so they could get FastPasses for Radiator Springs Racers and tickets to World of Color.

On our way in we stopped to quickly see Mickey.

Then we hit up Mr. Toad's Wild Ride - always a favorite of mine, but the kids weren't terribly impressed.

Peyton requested the carrousel again.

And we were right there, so we stopped to take pictures with the Sword in the Stone. I'm so glad we did - these pictures totally crack me up!

And then of course we had to do Buzz for Corbyn. I got pretty good after riding it so many times!

We heard you could meet Jessie in Frontierland, so we went to find her for Peyton. Jessie wasn't there, but Woody was and Corbyn was pretty excited about that!

By then Rog and my dad had our FastPasses for Radiator Springs Racers and our time was coming up pretty soon, so they were texting us to come over to California Adventure. On our way out we went through Fantasyland - big mistake! Peyton saw Pinnochio and started crying when we told her we couldn't stop to go on it. It didn't have a very long wait, so we gave in and took her on it.

As we were on Pinnochio, Rog and Grandpa came over to Disneyland and got in line for Minnie. We got there just in time to take a picture and then we headed over to California Adventure to finish the day there.

Peyton fell asleep for an early nap on our way over, so I stayed with her while everyone else rode Radiator Springs Racers. And then we swapped and I got my turn while Rog stayed with Peyton. Corbyn never has been that into Cars, but he enjoyed it. I'm sure it helped that I made him watch Cars just days before we left on our trip. After riding it two times he summed it up by saying, "There's a beautiful part, then a funny part, and then you RACE!" - a pretty accurate summary especially for a 3 year old!

By then Peyton was awake and it was time for lunch. We had a few FastPasses for Soarin' Over California, so Rog, Corbyn, and Grandma went on that while the rest of us started toward to the exit to go get lunch at McDonald's. Unfortunately at that moment, Peyton decided she wanted Daddy and nothing I did could distract her. It was a long 30 minutes of nonstop screaming while I waited for them to get off the ride. After some food and a chance to run around the hotel room for a few minutes, our happy Peyton was back!

We spent the afternoon on Paradise Pier. First the swings with Corbyn.

Then a cream cheese filled pretzel recommended to us by our good friend Cory Wood who just might be even more a Disney Fanatic than us!

We met Jessie for Peyton!

And then had some time to kill before Buzz would be there. (Buzz, Woody, and Jessie rotated every 20 minutes at this particular photo spot.) Peyton wanted to go on Mickey's Fun Wheel and very much enjoyed herself.

We missed Buzz while we were on that, so Rog and I used our FastPasses for California Screamin' while Grandma and Grandpa took the kids on King Triton's Carousel.

Then it was finally time for Corbyn to meet Buzz! No other character got such a big hug and this family picture ended up being the best picture of the trip!

Peyton took another stroller nap while we finished exploring Cars Land. We didn't know how tall she was and it turns out she could have ridden these rides, but oh well! First we did Mater's Junkyard Jamboree.

And then Luigi's Flying Tires.

For dinner we decided to go to Denny's again because IHOP was so much more expensive! And luckily we got a different waiter who didn't know about Peyton's incident!

We had to change Peyton's shirt after dinner, so we went back to the hotel for a few minutes. We were ready to go before my parents, so we started toward California Adventure without realizing they had our World of Color tickets. We had to wait for them to get there to get into the viewing area and by then we had pretty crappy "seats".

The kids had to sit on our shoulders to see anything and we really couldn't see anything at all. Toward the end we decided just to leave and realized we should have been standing up by Ariel's Undersea Adventure because we could see it so much better up there! So World of Color was a bust, but at least we learned a few lessons for next time.

Corbyn hadn't eaten a lot at dinner and was so tired he practically fell asleep on the ground while we were waiting for World of Color to start. I was thinking he might be getting Peyton's stomach bug and sure enough, as soon as Rog and I said goodnight and turned out the lights, he threw up!

The day didn't end particularly well, but we fit a lot in and had a great time before that!

Disneyland - Day 3

Wednesday morning Peyton woke up with a fever (possibly a continuation of her stomach bug?). We drugged her with some Advil and dragged her to the park! She wasn't 100%, but still was able to enjoy most of the day.

When we first walked in we saw Snow White over by the wishing well. She is currently one of Peyton's favorites because of the Seven Dwarf Cottage she got for Christmas and the Snow White book she got for Easter. The whole trip she would get so excited to see characters she knows and loves, but then would be scared when we actually got close.

As we were taking pictures with Snow White, Peter Pan walked by just for Corbyn!

Our first ride of the day was the Matterhorn. Corbyn didn't hate it, but it wasn't his favorite either.

While we were on the Matterhorn, Rog took Peyton on the Teacups.

Peyton wanted to go on Dumbo, so we waited in the long line for that.

We did King Arthur Carrousel (one of Peyton's favorites) again. Then I took Peyton on the Pooh ride while everyone else went on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

We left the park and had lunch at a little pizza place by our hotel. Rog and my dad took Peyton to the hotel to have a real nap while my mom and I took Corbyn back to Disneyland.

We went on Splash Mountain again and then stopped in a little shop to try on hats.

We rode the Disneyland Railroad from New Orleans Square to Tomorrowland. (Kind of for the ride, but mostly so we didn't have to walk all the way across the park!)

We went on the Buzz ride and then Astro Orbitor. Oddly enough, I'm pretty sure that was my first time ever riding Astro Orbitor! It was another Corbyn favorite!

Somehow we stumbled upon the Royal Theatre and were just in time to see Beauty and the Beast. (This was new since the last time we were there.)

Just as the show was ending Rog, my dad, and Peyton got back to the park after a good Peyton nap. My mom and I went to get a Dole Whip while everyone else went on Buzz.

We went on the Jungle Cruise.

And then went to IHOP for dinner because we were too embarrassed to go back to Denny's after Peyton's throwing up incident there!

As we were coming back into the park we saw Cinderella and had to stop for a picture. Cinderella was Peyton's first favorite princess.

Then it was time for the Soundsational Parade.

Before we had kids we never used to go to the parades, but now we love going to them. It's so fun to see their faces light up as they see their favorite characters pass by!

Rog and I rode the Matterhorn with our stroller swap pass from that morning.

And Peyton passed out in the stroller as my mom and I took her back to the hotel.

Rog and Grandpa took Corbyn on Buzz a few more times and then called it a day as well!

Disneyland - Day 2

Tuesday morning we woke up to find that Peyton had thrown up sometime in the night. We were hoping it was just something she ate, but then she threw up again as we were getting ready for the day. After that she seemed a lot better, so we took her to the park anyway.

We spent the day at California Adventure. Our plan was to get FastPasses for Radiator Springs Racers and World of Color as soon as we got there, but the FastPass line for Radiator Springs Racers was over an hour and a half long, so we just got the World of Color tickets and decided to do Radiator Springs Racers another day.

We started with the Disney Junior show and then as we were standing outside planning what to do next, Mickey walked out. We took the opportunity to grab a quick picture with no line!

We were right there, so we went to Turtle Talk with Crush. While we were doing that my dad went outside the park to get Subway sandwiches for us.

We were eating right by where Pluto was taking pictures and Peyton decided she really wanted to meet him, so we waited in a short line to take pictures with him.

Then we went to the Aladdin show. Peyton fell asleep near the end, so we put her in her stroller for a nap.

My dad stayed with Peyton while the rest of us went on Tower of Terror. Corbyn was not a fan! He called it the scary elevator and woke up a few days later saying, "Don't make me go on the scary elevator again!" When we got off we decided to recline Peyton's seat to make her more comfortable, but unfortunately she woke up in the process. We spent the next 30 minutes in line for Toy Story Mania trying to get her to go back to sleep! She finally did fall asleep right as we were getting to the front of the line, so we got a stroller swap and Rog went to try to put her down in the stroller.

We got off to find that she had woken up again, so we used the stroller swap right then. Corbyn liked it, but still preferred the Buzz ride. (Unfortunate because the rest of us preferred Toy Story Mania!)

Peyton seemed to have a little more life in her after that, so we rode King Triton's Carousel and let the kids splash in a fountain for a few minutes.

On the way down to Soarin' Over California we passed Grizzly River Rapids which was closed. Corbyn went right over and wanted to pose in front of the big bear!

Rog took Peyton over to "a bug's land" (but didn't actually end up riding anything because she was starting to act sick again) while the rest of us rode Soarin' Over California. Corbyn was totally in awe the whole time - definitely one of his more favorite rides.

Then we found a place to watch the parade. While we waited, Corbyn was giving Peyton the sweetest hugs to make her feel better!

It was the Pixar Play Parade and the kids loved it - although Corbyn noticed right away that Buzz wasn't on the Toy Story float and was a little disappointed by that!

We went to Denny's again for dinner where Peyton somehow ended up peeing on Rog's leg (even though her diaper was not very full) and then threw up after eating a little of her dinner. (At least she did it there and not at Disneyland!)

We abandoned our plans to see World of Color that night. My mom and I took Peyton back to the hotel to get her cleaned up and to bed while Rog and my dad went with Corbyn to get his Buzz ride fix for the day.

Poor Peyton didn't have the best day, but she was a good sport and we know it could have been so much worse!
