Flashback Friday

5 years ago today my life changed forever. I was sealed for time and all eternity to my cute redhead. I couldn't be more happy with the journey life has taken us on these past 5 years! After 5 years of marriage we have: 2 BS degrees from the Marriott School of Management at BYU, 1 mortgage, 2 children, and 5 years worth of happy memories. Here's to eternity!

I love you Rog! Thanks for making my life a little piece of heaven!

Last Days as 3

It's hard to wrap my head around the fact that tomorrow our family of 3 will become a family of 4. I'm very excited and slightly terrified at the same time.

These last few days we've been trying to make all the last minute preparations for Peyton to come - finishing up the nursery, writing thank you cards, running errands, cleaning the house, catching up the blog, and making sure the laundry and budget got done for the week - while at the same time trying to enjoy each other and our last days as 3.

Saturday morning Corby and I took Rog to one of our favorite parks. It's right outside the library, so we usually stop there after story time. Rog had never been, so we introduced him to it.

After nap time, Rog took Corbyn to Cabela's. We got a gift card there for Christmas and have been trying to find a time to go. I unfortunately had to stay home, but Corby and Rog had a good time together looking at the fish and other fun things they have at the store.

They also made a quick stop at IKEA to get some baskets for the nursery, but they were unsuccessful. {Thanks to Amazon Prime and their free 2 day shipping, I was able to find some, order them, and have them delivered yesterday before noon.}

On Sunday we (and by we I mean Rog) put together the swing. And that evening we took a walk all around our ward to deliver thank you cards from my shower. Then we were able to just sit out on the lawn and talk to some neighbors while enjoying the beautiful weather.

Yesterday afternoon I decided to be brave and run the very last few errands I had to do without Rog. Fortunately Corbyn was an angel and made it easy. We went to Babies R Us and Toys R Us to stock up on diapers. (I had 2 coupons for $7 off a value pack, but they would only let me use one per store. Good thing they are right next to each other and had the exact same value pack of diapers at the same price.) We of course had to stop in the Buzz aisle at Toys R Us. But I was able to move Corbyn along after only a few minutes and without too much of a fuss.

On our way out, we had to stop and play on the cars they have at the front of the store. Good thing he has yet to discover that if you put money in them, they give you a ride!

We also went to the mall to go to Kay's (more on that later), the Children's Place, and the Disney Store (because it is right next to the Children's Place). Again I was able to get Corbyn out after only a few minutes without a fuss. (I told you he was being an angel!) We made a final stop at Costco and then I was able to declare I was done running errands! And that deserves a WOOT!

My parents are coming up today from St. George to watch Corbyn while we are at the hospital. And tomorrow morning Labor and Delivery is supposed to call me between 6 am and 8 am to let me know when to come in to have our baby! I think how ready I get will depend on how early we have to be there!

I'm just hoping and praying that she hasn't managed to flip herself back around to head up. She is such a mover and I didn't realize she had flipped to head down before the version, so I don't think I'd notice if she did flip back. Oh Peyton, please stay HEAD DOWN!! We want to meet you tomorrow and if you're head up again, I don't know what they'll do.

Peyton's Nursery

I still have 2 small projects left do to in Peyton's Nursery, but I don't think I will get to them before she is born, so I figured I would post everything else and when I finish those projects I will post about them. One is an owl door hanging from the Wood Connection that I am going to hang on one of the small walls not shown in any of these pictures. And the other is this owl pillow.

Without further ado, here is Peyton's Nursery. A lot of the stuff I've already posted about as I finished projects, but here it is in its entirety.

I bought this owl pillow on Amazon. It is pretty similar to the one I am making, but hopefully different enough. They will be buddies.

The bookshelf. I didn't know how I would ever fill it up, but somehow I managed.

The pink frame will hold a birth announcement like this one. The little orange owl and the magnet board will hold pictures of Peyton.

Sorry again for the brightness. You'd think I'd learn and take pictures at a different time of day, but this is when Corbyn is taking his nap and I have time to sit down and blog. I finally found a cushion for the rocking chair. It is a tight fit, but it works. And it is pretty hard right now, but I suspect it will soften up as I use it.

The lower portion of this half of the room. I'm pretty in love with the dresser knobs all being different colors. And I love the owl garbage can. Target's bathroom section, baby!

And the upper portion.

This owl rug is completely unnecessary, but it was too cute to pass up. Also from Target's bathroom section.

My original plan was to stick to yellow and orange, but after I found the stuff from Target's bathroom section, I decided to add pink and green. It's a good thing I did because I would have had a really hard time finding some of the stuff in orange or yellow as pink is a much more popular nursery color.

Anyway, I love how it all turned out. It's so bright and cheery! Can't wait to bring my baby girl home to it!

Version

So funny story. This morning I went in for my version. I couldn't eat or drink after 2 am, so I woke up at 1:30 am and had a snack. We had to be there at 9:30 am even though it wasn't scheduled until 11:30 am. They had us look over some paperwork and then put us in a labor and delivery room. I changed into my gown and then we waited for a good 30 or 45 minutes. I read the Hunger Games and Rog worked. Finally the nurse came in and put on those things that measure the baby's heartbeat and contractions. She got my IV going and then gave me a shot of some medicine that relaxes the uterus. Then Dr. Dayton came in to do the actual procedure. He felt Peyton and thought at first her head was up, but then he wasn't sure, so they did a quick ultrasound and guess what?! Her head was down!
So basically I didn't have to go through any of that. Most of it wasn't too bad - other than not being able to eat or drink and the medicine wasn't that great either (it made me SOOOO tired or maybe that was from not having the best night of sleep - either way, I actually took a nap while Corbyn took his nap which I never do).
Don't get me wrong, I am SUPER excited that she turned on her own. I just wish we knew that BEFORE I had to go through all of that! They are going to induce me on Thursday morning. Dr. Dayton checked me and I am now dilated 2 cm and 70% effaced, so that is good and favorable for being induced. Hopefully she will still be head down when we go in!
After we left the hospital I was STARVING, so we splurged and went to Kneaders for lunch (where I got my favorite turkey sandwich and the fruit tart that I love, but can never justify getting) and then Sonic because I was craving a Strawberry Limeade. Pretty sure it was the best meal I have ever had in my lifetime! Being pregnant and fasting really do not mix especially when you are a Ririe.
Anyway, we can't wait to meet our little girl on Thursday! And I am so excited I don't have to have a c-section (at least a planned one - I know you can never rule it out completely because so much can happen unexpectedly). I'll be sure to post as soon as I can after she arrives.

Friday Letters

Our bedtime routine complete with owl superhero cape.
Dear house,
Why do you have to get so messy so quickly? I get you all cleaned up and then a huge mess erupts. It seems I can either keep you clean or get stuff done.
Love,
The mom who spends all her free time cleaning up messes

Dear Dinner Group,

We always have good food, but last night especially hit the spot! Hawaiian was a good theme for us. The teriyaki chicken-pineapple kabobs, the lime-cilantro rice with pineapple, the pineapple-coconut muffins, the cabbage salad, the strawberry-citrus slushies (made by yours truly), the brownie dessert... I'm pretty sure I could eat that meal everyday for the rest of my life and be happy.

Love,

The 38 week pregnant lady

Dear Corby,

This week was a rough one for sleep. You woke up early every day and took shorter than normal naps. You're not sick and you aren't teething. The only thing I can think to blame this on is you getting a new sister soon. Your neighbor friend, Felicity, did the same thing before her little sister came. Don't worry, mommy and daddy will still love you when there are 2 of you!

Love,

Your mom

Dear Peyton,

We are getting anxious to meet you. Please be a good little girl and turn for us on Monday, so I can be induced on Thursday. We have a cute nursery all ready and lots of cute clothes for you. You can't stay in there forever! I love you already!

Love,

Your mom

Dear Rog,

Do you realize that at this time next week we could be sitting in the hospital with our new little girl? I don't know how to be a parent to 2 kiddos, do you? We'll figure it out together - we always have, we always will. I love you!

Love,

Your Chief

22 Months

The Corb at 22 months:
*Says mouse, Mickey, Minnie, I want ___ (usually Buzz).
*Likes going to story time at the library.
Although he spends most of his time running around the room instead of sitting nicely. (I figure if we keep going he'll eventually get the point.)
*Doesn't wear onesies under his clothes anymore.
*Loves playing in Peyton's room. He'll be sad when we finally set up her swing (this weekend) because this box won't be there for him to jump off anymore.
*Can find YouTube on my phone and insists on watching Buzz. (I only let him when I really need him to sit still - like if we're in a store and I've tried everything else I can think of!)
*Jumps off everything!
*Can identify and draw circles.
*Has to carry around all of his Buzz toys everywhere we go.
*Will usually only wear his blue bib unless he is really distracted and we sneak the green bib on him.
*Loves wearing bath towels on his head and running around like a superhero. (And we love his superhero poses.)
*Gives kisses when we ask for them - especially before his nap and bed.
*Finished getting 4 new teeth (his canines) this month. (He started on them last month.) He only has his second molars left and then he will finally be done!
*Insists on putting mousse in his hair whenever he sees me doing my hair curly.
*Will soon be a big brother!

Family x 2

Last weekend (Yes, I am finally getting around to posting about last weekend when this weekend is practically here!) we had both our families visiting. On Wednesday my parents came up for a work conference my dad had in Salt Lake on Thursday. My dad dropped my mom off at our house, so she could come to Peyton's shower with me. She stayed the night and hung out with me and Corby on Thursday.
While she was here Corby opened his Easter present from my parents. It was the first time he actually knew what to do with the wrapping paper without being shown first. He got a Mickey Mouse coloring book and Toy Story coloring pages which he of course loves.
She also helped me get our taxes done, watched Corbyn while I went to the temple (Rog also went that day before work - we had to get our April visit in just in case Peyton came early!), and treated us to Cafe Rio.
They went back home on Friday, so they stopped and took me and Corby to dinner at IHOP while Rog was at KD's graduation with his family. Corby loved his pancakes - too bad all restaurant don't serve breakfast all day long!
On Saturday morning Rog took Corby swimming in the hotel his family was staying at while I stayed at home and got some stuff for the nursery done. Corby didn't have the greatest time because he hasn't been swimming since last summer. (I'm sure after a few visits to Seven Peaks this summer, he'll be our little fish again.)
His favorite part was these fountains.
Then after everyone did some errands in the afternoon, we met up for dinner at Texas Roadhouse. Corby and Jaxon had some cousin bonding time watching Horton Hears a Who during dinner. (Notice Corbyn's newest Buzz from his Grandma Phillips.)
Rog told our waiter it was Dixie's birthday. It took some persuading, but we got her up on the saddle. Happy Birthday Dixie!
It was fun having both our families here for a visit - even though I didn't get to see the Phillips for very long!

Peyton's Shower

Mindy (my Relief Society President who I used to visit teach, is my neighbor, and who I am in constant contact with because of my calling as Compassionate Service Leader), Megan (my visiting teacher who has watched Corbyn for practically every appointment I've had this pregnancy), and Mariah (of the famous Bill and Mariah) threw me the most perfect baby shower last Wednesday night. The decorations were the cutest ever, the food was delicious, the games were fun, and so many friends came to literally shower Peyton with mass amounts of adorable clothing.
It was at Mariah's house and she did all the decorations. Welcome Peyton owls. Seriously so cute. And check out all those presents!
I look like a complete and total dork in this picture. Seriously I don't know what face I am pulling. But look past that at the paper lanterns and the food. Spinach dip, fruit kabobs, mini cupcakes with owl toppers, and Bill's famous lemon bars. Yum!
We played the candy bar game where you match candy bars to baby terms and a game where we guessed how much each baby item cost.
I was so happy to get to have a girl baby shower. A huge thank you to Mindy, Megan, and Mariah and everyone who came!
