Third and Fourth Quarter Reading

The number of books I actually read for myself was ridiculously low during the second half of 2020. After I finished Before We Were Yours I couldn't find anything I wanted to read for a long time. It's a good thing I count books I listen to as well as books I read and listen to with the kids now!

Books I Read

33. Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. This was an excellent book. Hard to believe this sort of thing actually happened!

34. Textbook Amy Krouse Rosenthal by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. I read these out of order. She wrote Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life first. So sad to know she died the year after this book was published (at 51).

35. Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Both of these books by Amy Krouse Rosenthal were so unique. I loved the fresh take on a memoir.

Books I Listened To

36. Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center. I listened to this book and then was hooked on Katherine Center. I listened to all of her books that were available on Scribd.

37. How to Walk Away by Katherine Center.

38. What You Wish For by Katherine Center.

39. The Lost Husband by Katherine Center. This one was turned into a movie. I liked the book better, but the movie was worth watching too.

40. Get Lucky by Katherine Center.

41. The Half Sister by Sandie Jones. Reminded me of a Liane Moriarty book.

42. The Survivor's Guide to Family Happiness by Maddie Dawson. Another author I'm hooked on after listening to her book, Matchmaking for Beginners, in the first half of the year.

43. Parachutes by Kelly Yang. Her other book, Front Desk, would be a good one to read with kids. This one contained more adult themes and would not be.

44. The Opposite of Maybe by Maddie Dawson.

45. The Flatshare by Beth O'Leary. I started this one and wasn't enjoying the beginning, so I stopped listening to it. But Janssen raved about it, so I started listening again and ended up loving it.

Books I Read to Corbyn and Peyton

46. Mr. Gedrick and Me by Patrick Carman.

47. You Go First by Erin Entrada Kelly.

48. Towers Falling by Jewell Parker Rhodes. We read this one in September. It was a good book dealing with how the events of September 11, 2001 affected kids who were not yet born when September 11th happened.

49. Pax by Sara Pennypacker.

50. The Best Halloween Ever by Barbara Robinson.

51. The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary. One of my favorite Beverly Cleary books!

52. The Land of Forgotten Girls by Erin Entrada Kelly.

53. The One and Only Bob by Katherine Applegate. A fun sequel to The One and Only Ivan.

54. Runaway Ralph by Beverly Cleary.

55. Miracle on 34th Street by Valentine Davies. We watched the 1947 movie after reading this together.

Books We Listened To

56. Ribsy by Beverly Cleary.

57. Ellen Tebbits by Beverly Cleary.

58. Otis Spofford by Beverly Cleary.

59. Roll With It by Jamie Sumner.

60. Gone Crazy in Alabama by Rita Williams-Garcia.

61. The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen.

62. The Runaway King by Jennifer A. Nielsen.

63. The Shadow Throne by Jennifer A. Nielsen. There's a 4th book in this series that just came out, but I needed a break after listening to these 3 in a row, so we are not listening to the 4th one yet.

32 books the first half of the year and 31 the second half for 63 total. Not the 100 I was unofficially aiming for this year, but not too shabby!
