Logan's Birthday

The week leading up to Logan's birthday Rog and I got sick with a terrible sore throat. We were miserable and only barely functioning by taking the maximum dose of ibuprofen every 6 hours. We were supposed to have Logan's birthday party the morning of his birthday, but decided we'd better postpone it since we didn't want to share our sickness and since I wasn't feeling well enough to get everything ready for the party anyway. The night before his birthday, I hung up the few decorations I had gotten ready and Rog made fun of me saying Logan wouldn't even notice or care. But look who was absolutely delighted to see his balloons when we came downstairs! (Mom for the win!)

He loved opening his presents. From us he got the Little People Magical Day at Disney Playset (want), a Mickey Cup and a Mickey Spoon/Fork (need), a Mickey helmet (wear), and Disney Baby My First Colors book (read).

From Grandma Dixie and Grandpa Mike he got a Lego Duplo Number Train. And from Grandma Lori and Papa George he got a tricycle and Mickey & Goofy's Gas and Dine Playset.

A few of Rog's coworkers had been sick, so we just assumed we had what they had. But finally I got asking Rog questions about what they had and we decided it sounded like we had something else. I started looking up strep throat symptoms and was pretty sure that was what we had, so Rog went into Urgent Care to get tested. Sure enough his strep test came back positive, so we loaded everyone up and headed over there. Corbyn and I could be seen by a nurse (for free), but we had to wait around for a doctor to see Peyton and Logan since they were too young. My strep test also came back positive and so did Corbyn's (even though he wasn't even feeling sick), so the doctor didn't even test Peyton and Logan (Peyton would have been fine, but testing Logan wouldn't have been pleasant for anyone!) and just sent us home with 5 prescriptions for Penicillin.

When we put Logan down for his nap, I crashed on the couch while the kids were watching shows. It had been a busy week and being so sick finally caught up to me.

Corbyn's school had their big WinterFest carnival that afternoon/evening. We went even though we knew we shouldn't because we had already purchased tickets for the games and Corbyn had really been looking forward to it.

Before we drove over to the school we turned Logan's carseat around. Hooray for finally facing forward!

They had a great variety of fun carnival games.

As well as face painting.

Logan was not wanting to be put down, so Rog was a trooper and carried him on his shoulders most of the time we were there.

We used up our tickets as fast as we could and then spent the Wildcat Bucks they earned from playing the games and got out of there. Hopefully we didn't infect too many people!

A nice family in our ward brought us dinner and we just did ice cream with sprinkles and a couple candles for Logan since we hadn't sung to him yet.

The next day we stayed home from church. It was a beautiful day and we've learned that when the sun's out, you go out. So we went to the park and ended up playing a fun little baseball game as a family.

When Logan woke up from his nap we turned on a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for him. I sat down to watch it with him and ended up taking another nap!

I made him spaghetti for his birthday dinner and some easy Mickey cupcakes. He was delighted with the display, but was being a stinker and refused to try one. We didn't feel like we should share them, so everyone (except for Logan) ate a lot of cupcakes for a few days to finish them off.

It wasn't exactly the birthday we had planned for him, but at least it happened now while he's still too young to know it was his birthday. And it definitely was a birthday we won't soon forget!

2 Years

Logan had his 2 year appointment on March 22nd. He didn't have to have any shots and it was a pretty uneventful appointment. He's in the 50th percentile range for both weight and height, but his head circumference is still in the 98th percentile. They measured it twice to double check. He's always had a big head!

His stats:

Weight: 28 pounds (55th percentile)
Height: 34.5 inches (50th percentile)

Logan at 2 years:

*Knows a good number of words, but hasn't started combining them into sentences yet. It was about this age that Corbyn's speech really took off, so our fingers are crossed Logan's will do the same!
*Loves to say bye. He says it so clearly and is incredibly adorable when he does it (many, many times a day).
*Says nom, nom, nom when he likes what he's eating.
*Loves mac and cheese (calls it cheese). He often requests it for lunch.
*Is a good little cleaner. He loves starting the dishwasher and helping take out the trash/changing the trash bag.
*Walks up and down the stairs without holding onto anything most of the time.
*Will often suck on two of his fingers (usually his pointer and middle fingers). I thought he was doing it because he was getting his last molars, but I don't see any signs of them and he continues to suck on those fingers, so apparently we have a finger sucker.
*Is a good eater, but loves to drink his calories. Smoothies, hot chocolate, and orange juice are his favorites. He's our best milk drinker by far.
*Thinks he needs to put on his rain boots to go out to jump on the tramp.
*Loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse something fierce. He is always asking to watch a show and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is still the only thing he wants to watch.
*Loves to point out his family members in pictures.
*Doesn't usually cry or make too much noise when he wakes up from his naps. Sometimes I don't even realize he's awake until I turn on the monitor to check on him.
*Can throw a serious tantrum when he doesn't get what he wants or when he can't communicate what he wants with us.
*Is a jumper - on the tramp and off.

When mom pulls you out of your carseat just as you are falling asleep and tries to make you stay awake while she's making you lunch.

He doesn't mind having his hair cut especially if he gets to watch a show while I'm doing it.

And of course I would never be dumb enough to try to cut his hair without turning on a show, so haircuts go pretty smoothly around here.

I couldn't keep him out of our pot of leprechaun gold (Rolos). Good thing I bought the extra large bag.

Big boy at the park.

Logan and Peyton created a game where they line up every stool in the house, walk across them and then jump onto the Love Sac.

He went from being the worst toddler ever at listening to books, to the very best.

Coloring at story time at Barnes and Noble. (We've been going pretty much every week.)

Just chillin'. (Also at B&N story time.)

He had an awful stretch where he would scream, cry, and refuse to eat when it was time for lunch or dinner.

We just had to let him get it out and usually he'd snap out of it and then gobble up whatever we were eating. This particular night he ate 4 pancakes! (Knock on wood, he seems to be past this stage.)

Mickey! He gets so excited whenever he sees him (or one of Mickey's friends) anywhere.

I bought the Donald Duck orange juice for his party and he was so excited, he sat in the cart holding it for the rest of our shopping trip.

This is his favorite place to watch his shows. No surprise, I have to clean the glass on the end tables at least once a day.

Oh how we love this 2 year old (even if at times he makes it abundantly clear why they call these the terrible twos)! He makes up for any terribleness with an extra supply of sweetness and adorableness!

Corbyn's Birthday

Corbyn's actual birthday was just a week after we arrived in Oregon. We were still getting unpacked and settled, but I managed to make it a special day for our Corbyn.

He requested donuts for breakfast, so I made Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donuts.

Presents were first on the agenda. He got the Mega Man Legacy Collection for Nintendo 3DS (want)...

A blue/gray comforter (need), a hooded shark towel (wear), and the final BOB books to complete our collection (read).

He wanted to go swimming, so we found an indoor pool that had open swim in the afternoon. Rog couldn't leave work to come with us (orientation week), so I had my hands full. It was a bit tricky holding Logan while catching Corbyn and Peyton when they came down the big slide, but no one drowned, so I'm calling it a success.

We had planned to go to Red Robin for dinner, but the wait was too long, so we went to Chick-fil-A instead.

And then we went to see Finding Dory. Rog ended up walking the halls with Logan, but the rest of us enjoyed it. Luckily the manager saw him out there missing the whole movie and gave him 2 passes to come back to see another movie.

I let him pick whatever ice cream he wanted at the store for his birthday treat. He picked a strawberry cheesecake one and unfortunately it was not very good, but I think he had a pretty good birthday nonetheless.

Finished Room Friday: Late Additions

I'm still working on the craft room and Rog is still working on the cabinets for the living room, but I wanted to quickly share some late additions to a few rooms I had previously declared finished.

I added this Sunshine in a Box from the Wood Connection to our Master Bedroom.

I also added this pillow to the rocking chair. When I first saw it at Target, I thought it would be perfect for this room, but didn't buy it because I like how I have the pillows on our bed. But then later that day I realized I could use a pillow for the rocking chair and I didn't waste any time going back to get it!

I wanted two matching lamps for our Guest Bedroom, but couldn't find any I liked (that didn't cost a fortune) before I posted about that room. Then I found these at Walmart for pretty cheap. The base was off-white, but I decided to paint it blue to add a little more color to this room. I was worried Logan wouldn't be able to leave them alone, but they've been there a week and he hasn't paid too much attention to them.

Finally we ordered roller shades from Lowe's for the windows that we hadn't covered yet. While we were at it, I added valances to those windows.

Stairway

We love all the windows in our house for the natural light, but they do let in the cold. These roller shades have been great. They're easy to open/close (although that stairway one is a bit of a reach) and they do seem to keep some of the cold out at night.

And now I'm again declaring these rooms finished (until I find something else to add to them). A room is really never truly finished! Am I right, or am I right?!
